Floppy sound on Minimig core

Post by the80scomputers »

It's a reality :)

We already have a sound emulation of a floppy drive in Amiga AGA core thanks to @neurorules:

MiSTer FPGA alternative Amiga AGA core : https://github.com/antoniovillena/MiSTe ... AGA_MiSTer

The FPGA pin assigned to the buzzer is PIN_C7.

@neuro : Why not make it work with serial I/O, so it is compatible with the official boards?

Also it sounds like it doesnt make the classic "tick" noise when there is no disk in the drive.. this is a major omission if true..

but all in all , this should be added to the official core as the drive sounds of the Amiga (especially the empty drive tick-tick-tick) are quintessentially unique to the Amiga and the Amiga experience.

If someone would like to add true sounds according to drive states, then it will be merged to official build.

Pretty interesting. It can actually be somewhat useful to have audio cues of disk being read so you know somethings happening without looking at blinking lights.

Perhaps one day someone with the capability can work out a way to get read access from a PC floppy drive connected to the IO board expansion port.

Yes, it really is a feature that Minimig had and that it lost, in some way, in some update. I think that having a small speaker in MiSTer is not a bad idea, it is only necessary to use a pin and the code is already done and tested.
