Cray-1 source code

Post by Newsdee »

I was in the Computer History Museum yesterday, and I learned of the existence of an FPGA implementation of the Cray-1 Supercomputer, which had a whopping 80 Mhz 64 bit CPU back in 1975.

After a bit of googling I found there is HDL code for it:
https://code.google.com/archive/p/cray-1x/

I'm not sure this is useful in any way (I think software for it was mostly lost to the depths of time) but it is an iconic computer nonetheless.

Edit (more links):

Direct download of code:

Could do some Tron level rendering on such a device with its vector processing support

I guess we’d need some nearly non-existent software though.

It’s quite cool to see this sort of thing. What was once a few refrigerators in size now fits in one’s palm.
