USB Hub board
I'm working on 7-ports USB hub board:
I've ordered on JLCPCB. It's 15USD including shipment which is OK. But they charge for any color if not green. So, ordered the green one.
Hope I will get it next week.
Board uses a wired micro-USB connector, so user can turn the board and choose which 3 sides to use for USB sockets. It uses FE2.1 chip.
Since the board's length is 107mm which is over 100mm, it's complicated to find cheap manufacturer. PCBWay charge ~30USD+shipment which is not acceptable. I've ordered on JLCPCB. It's 15USD including shipment which is OK. But they charge for any color if not green. So, ordered the green one.

Re: USB Hub board
Interesting - MiSTer keeps on growing

Re: USB Hub board
Agreed, the MiSTer keeps getting better and better.

The Tower of MiSTer... it seems a “Twilight Zone” episode

Re: USB Hub board
Great! That will alleviate strain on the onboard connector. I assume it can also provide extra power to peripherals?
Re: USB Hub board
it will depend on how you will connect the power to it. It has separate 5V connector but can use power from USB as well.Newsdee wrote:I assume it can also provide extra power to peripherals?
Re: USB Hub board
Very cool initiative, i can only ever commend your creative and productive efforts Sorgelig and I look forward to building one for myself when you get this project finished!

Re: USB Hub board
This board is not required at all. It's made for convenience only.keito wrote:Very cool initiative, i can only ever commend your creative and productive efforts Sorgelig and I look forward to building one for myself when you get this project finished!
If you mean the whole MiSTer project, then it will be fully finished when it will be dead

Re: USB Hub board
I've assembled the board. It's really cool! Now construction is more compact. Nothing is floating around - all USB devices are tightly coupled with main board.
The board uses 3 sides for USB sockets. MicroUSB uses "tail" to connect the board, so user can turn the board and use either long side for USB sockets depending on usage environment. Thanks to FE2.1 chip which uses only few external components to build 7-port hub.
This is how power is connected from main DE10-nano power jack: This cut point should be cut if you supply external power to the HUB: In action:

Re: USB Hub board
This is so cool! Although now we need a new 3D printed case

With so many lights, transparent acrylic case is better now

I love the way this project is growing...
Thanks for developing yet another board guys!

Yes, but an acrylic case with some further different led's in it!Sorgelig wrote:With so many lights, transparent acrylic case is better now

This is really nerdy now!

Re: USB Hub board
If you compare with original legs on DE10-nano, then height with this USB hub adds around 5mm only.
If you use some case without original legs, then it will add around 10mm of height.

Re: USB Hub board
Do we have a BOM available for the USB Hub board?
I look on the Wiki and on the Hardware_MiSTer but I can find it.
Thank you
Cyril

Anyone interested in making and buying USB-daugter boards?
Hi MISTers,
in case you haven't found this part of Sorgeligs MISTer Wiki, you really missed something!
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_Mi ... hter-board
Is anyone willing to produce this board ... maybe there are some of you (like me) who like the idea of conveniently adding USB-Hardware to the MISTer board. Maybe we can collect a couple of request in order to get this on the road?
What I do not understand is the second and preferred version (what I also would prefer), how to add external power to the USB board?
So feel free to answer to this post I would really like to complete my little rig as soon as possible
Interested is:

Re: Anyone interested in making and buying USB-daugter boards?
I would like to purchase one if they become available.
Re: Anyone interested in making and buying USB-daugter boards?
I'm Looking at it but I think that will be expensive.
Edit:
The PCB (Blue - PCBWay.com) for 15 is $33.00 + $13 (S/H)

Re: USB Hub board
Nice, I'll take a look whether I could fit smaller version of this with 2 (possibly 3) usb ports directly on my de0-ns IO board - as an optional add-on.
Re: USB Hub board
as always, most components (connectors, passives) i buy in local store, so i don't have BOM.cvenditti wrote:Do we have a BOM available for the USB Hub board?

I've only bought online FE2.1: https://lcsc.com/product-detail/USB_FE2-1_C39693.html - currently out of stock, Aliexpress should have it.
crystal is like this one: https://lcsc.com/product-detail/SMD-Cry ... 12573.html
Everything else are pretty generic.
LEDs are 0805 green/orange/red.
What i've noticed is that orange LEDs are never lit. May be it's for very specific situation and most likely you don't need to solder them.
LEDs should be with lowest light power as they are not for light but for signaling. I had to cover mine with black tape as they are too bright.
Re: USB Hub board
I've merged the other topic as this one i think is enough. The name is pretty much descriptive.

Unfortunately the size of USB hub cannot be shrunk, so... But, it's for 10 boards. So, for sellers like you it should be acceptable as it's just $3.3+$1.3 per board. Compare to $0.5+$1.3.. The difference is $2.8 per board. There are not many components on the board and they aren't expensive (don't solder orange LEDs to cost it down).
Thus overall, the total price should be cheaper than I/O board.
yep.. It's expensive because length is over 100mm. Now you know why I/O Board doesn't cover the whole DE10-nanocvenditti wrote:I'm Looking at it but I think that will be expensive.

Re: USB Hub board
FE2.1 from eBay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-10-50-100PCS ... 1405730180
Should be better than Aliexpress in terms of shipment time. But don't order many at first time. Make sure it's FE2.1 (7-port hub), not FE1.1(4-port hub). They are not pin compatible.

Re: USB Hub board
hello
just a question for a beginner
, 24c02 it is used as a buffer or should it be programmed for another utility?

Re: USB Hub board
The 24c02 is an EEProm to store device number / vendor id / product id and so on.
It's not mandarory - and you can also see from the pictures on the Wiki Page that Sorgelig hasn't soldered it.
