For me it runs silent on the 5v from the de10nano.
if you put your ear very close you can hear it.
and has the correct connector already.

What would be the best way to wire a mini laptop speaker to the MiSTer without an I/O board? I have one that uses a 2 pin molex connector (so is mono sound only)

I could extract audio from HDMI for better quality but the box for that is rather bulky. This is to put inside a case with screen and speaker.

instead of hdmi audio extractor you ca use toslink to analog converter. they are small. You need only resistor and red LED to make a transmitter

Would it be ok to use a 4.7 kohms resistor at r4, 10 and 16 instead of a 4.3 kohms?

Hard to tell. You can try and then use some high color core (for example Menu core with vga_scaler=1) and check the color ramp screen to see a linearity.

Catching up on all the good MiSTer updates, regarding the IO Board rev. 6, what specifically does the "R-2R DAC for VGA" provide?

Hello,
Just plugged in the IO board and bit surprised about these:
* slowly rotating fan
* slow blinking RED and GREEN Leds
Is that normal, shouldn't fan spin full speed? Or is it PWM fan and will speed up when FPGA temp gets higher?

Also,
* what are those 3 buttons for?
* I read about SOG switch - "enable Sync-On-Green (or Sync-On-Y)" - what is that syncing for ?

Wiki say nothing about the above, have I missed the manual somewhere else? Thanks for the tips in advance.

Hi eskwadrat,

Some IO board info-

Slow fan: Might be a new fan that needs to run a bit. Also some board builders (myself included) offer the option of a 12 volt fan, which will run slower on the IO board (should still be somewhat fast tho). Some V6 boards have a jumper for 3.3v or 5v fan power, make sure that is set appropriately (silk-screened on the back of the board). 12v fans will need the 5v position, 5v fans should work in either.

Slow blinking lights... the power led (closest to the sd card slot) should be solid red, the other two will blink slowly back and forth at the menu screen. The digital audio led (by audio jack) should appear solid 'on' to the naked eye.

SOG: exact switch function depends on your board version, but generally, it selects whether the board adds the video synchronization signals to the green video signal (hence 'sync on green'), this was a common method on older CRT monitors "back in the day"

Hi,

From the user's point of view, what's the difference between the v6.0 board and the 5.6 XL? Any new feature?

I had a visual inspection of the board and it seems to have the same ports, buttons, LEDs, etc. so just wondering if this new revision is something worth the upgrade or the changes only affect the manufacturing process.

it's not worth to upgrade from v5.6 to v6.0. It's mostly for easier assembling.

Anyone know how I could go about adding external LEDs/Buttons to the I/O board using the female white connectors near the corner? I don't really have a reason but it might be a neat little baby project

I just got done building my V6 board and on mine at the main menu the red and green leds strobe back and forth. Is this correct?

Also the digital audio led is not on. Does it only light when a digital audio source is plugged in to the jack?

How high can the resistor network R/2R go? is 470/1k or 1k/2k acceptable?

I've tried 240/475 and 300/604. The second pair gives darker video. First one is ideal from my point of view.
