Is it normal that a lot of CPS1 freeze while in the game ?

Do you think is it normal? :D
I've spotted a possible issue (it was stable for me even before), but you can try the attached one.

Thanks Slingshot.

I had random freeze or reset during the games.

Edit: test your core, but always freezes and reset. Has someone tested the cps1 core ?

Anyway thanks for this masterpiece for MiST, even if it's not playable at all.

Nothing to do... :(

I think it's a ram related problem, because on MiSTICA the core is stable and I played some games without freezes or random reset.

I tried to change power supply too, but no way.

Thanks, no success.

I own the MiST with Black and White case, I don't know what version It is, but I think it's 1.3 without MiDi port.

Currently cps1 is the first core to have problems on my original MiST.

Here is an example of Knights of the Round that sometime freeze with an error:

Has anyone else tested this core on their MiST ?

Tested the new games and updated the .rbf . Everything is ok :D  .

On Starjacker I've found the problem on the MRA file:

Code: Select all

<dip bits="8"      name="Cabinet" ids="Upright,Cocktail"/>
This line is absent. So once you put it. ARC and .rom are created

Is there a diagnostic core to test my MiST, expecially ram ?

Many thanks.

You could run a memory test program e.g. on the minimig core, see https://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.p ... 10#p404610

I will try it, I had just installed AmigaTestKit on my HDF image.

But I thought there was a diagnostic tool like on Turbo Chameleon 64.
Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

I contacted Lotharek hoping in an answer. I don't want to buy a new MiST without the certainty that mine is faulty.

Ok tests expleted with both DiagROM and AmigaTestKit 1.15, no errors.

But how reliable can they be ?

If the only core is CPS1 which doesn't work, then I doubt it's faulty. Maybe some hidden issue in the core, but no dev can reproduce it.

So it's lucky if a core works or not on your machine. 8O

I think a standard is needed in development, and perhaps MiST has differences in various version. This is not a good thing to hear for a retro-fan.

As neither me or I assume neither Jotego has a hardware test lab, we can only test it on limited number of devices (1 in my case). Also nobody sponsors me to do such tests.
And as there's no obvious errors or timing violations, it's hard to guess what's the problem.

Hi, I hadn't seen these messages.

This is likely to be a problem with the SDRAM clock shift value. That is a magnitude that must be gathered experimentally. For MiSTer I got a collection of memory modules, I think I had 9 of them. I tested all of them on two different MiSTer boards and chose a value valid for all and centred. I haven't had any complaints since and there are 100's of users (probably somewhere in the 1000-5000 range)

But for MiST, I only have a single unit. I suppose I did some testing initially, found a wide range of valid values and picked up the one in the middle. But it was a long time ago and don't remember well. Even if I calibrated the value in mine, it is only one unit, so it is not a good sample of the population! Yours, DanyPPC, has been the first complaint about timing. But I do not know the MiST user base. I haven't heard complaints about SiDi cores either (which share the same code as MiST).

We can organize a group testing effort. If we are like 5-10 people willing to try ~20 RBF files and report which ones work and which ones don't, we will be able to get to a more reliable clock shift value.
