Re: Time to Work on The STBook

Ya, Ok. SD adapter it will be. My Falcon has a removable SD card slot anyway, so moving files will not be difficult until I close the STBook up. But I could make a slot that goes through the battery compartment. I am not planning on using batteries anyway. I have the AC power brick. Would a coin bat...

Time to Work on The STBook

It is now time to work on getting my STBook up and running. I have very carefully opened it up and removed the HD and the motherboard. (The HD was a very dead, not spinning Conner CP2044PK) I would like to ask for help from all of you, smarter than I, hardware power users! I have found and started t...

Re: 1040STf chip location help wanted

Arne; Yes, if one knows how to find the correct version, read and then translate the schematics to actual physical objects with a measurement tool. That is definitely not me. I can barely measure AA batteries with a multimeter, and 50/50 chance I get the polarity right. But I'm trying to learn. tzok...

Re: ST BIOS Source Listings found

Cyprian, Thanks, that is almost exactly what I have. My first 2 pages are found at about page 40 from your first link. And those looks a bit better than mine, plus they have consecutive page numbers on the bottom. SO I'm guessing that the 'hello c' source listing that is also in the packet should al...

ST BIOS Source Listings found

I think I found some July 9, 1985 ST Bios Source listings in a binder from a Atari collector passed a couple years ago. I have scanned several of the page 1's. Are these already archived somewhere? Or should I scan all the pages, about 200 2-sided. The portrait pages look to be from one larger doc w...

Re: :: We Love Atari (Volume Two) Atari Corp. ::

My original 1040ST machine did have the PSU and FD (right side) built in. Around 2000, when I started collecting, I was confused about all the little letters I was seeing on the ST badges. (F/FM/E) Because my vivid recollection was that mine did not have any little letter. I have long since learned ...

Re: :: We Love Atari (Volume Two) Atari Corp. ::

Just received and read this amazing book!! WELL DONE !!! A must read for all ST fans!!! Quality of the book/binding/thick paper stock/glossy pages is OUTSTANDING !!! The writing to good, sharp and to the point. Writer notes where his opinion is shown. There are a few typos, like XF-551 is XF-511, an...

Re: STE repair

Just wondering, did you try and do some clean up of the area? ISO, vinegar, lemon juice? Perhaps adding some solder then use a solder sucker, or braid to remove the bad solder? Dose not part of the TOS switcher you are going to use go over the melted section of that socket? There might be some clear...

Re: Dead Falcon - no boot / coloured screen only

Did you check for any physical damage? Probably small, possibly from a desk drop/tumble. Broken solder points? Check with a magnifying glass, 10x or better. rarely do falcon chips go bad. Possible but unlikely. Your symptoms suggest something physical, in my very small opinion. Perhaps do the 'bake ...

Re: STacy screen not fully working

Got one more question for you DarkLoard. The PSU I am using I got 'new' from Best about 8 years ago. This is the one I have been using in my upgrade/testing. It reads 16.5V, no load. The PSU that came with this STacy looks 'third party', It was opened up and I presume something changed, then the bla...

Re: STacy screen not fully working

Wow, Good call. I just pressed down on the upper corner, got a very small, but satisfying click. powered up to the desktop, and it is all good!!
Now to start the reassembly and hope it all still works. I'll power up after each major step and hope all stays well.
Many Thanks

STacy screen not fully working

I am still working on this STacy. After using it for a while format the HD, after a reboot, the upper right section of the screen when blank. See pics. During boot that section appears to be working while HDDriver is loading from disk. It disappears just after the desktop shows. I used My Atari Diag...

Re: STacy restoration & upgrade Q's

That looks good.
I used a drill and file for make slots for the scsi2sd.
But before I mount it, I should test. But do I have the cable polarity correct?
I think I have pin 1 to pin 1, but would like an outside conformation.
