Re: OIDS hard disk versions for test

I was thinking little about improving scroll. Probably can do smooth scroll even without blitter. That may cost little + RAM, but we can remove editor from play version. So, I went into disassembling it. And lucky ! That was my way fastest Atari ST game disassembly so far. About 1.5 hours only. Of ...

Or do as dlfrsilver suggests, and split the graphics data into the individual levels to load in only what you need at that point.

Well there's the Outline party coming up at the end of May if anyone wants to thrash something together quickly.

Alternatively, for those people with a bit more time on hand, the prospect of a new Sillyventure party is being floated for December :-)

Oh, and, awesome work Doug!

AtariZoll has created a 'Desert island floppy disk' :-)

Re: Best scene demos to watch on ct60(e) ?

My curiosity was piqued.

The music in Silk Cut plays back through VLC, so the audio must have used a codec VLC can recognise, no visuals though.

Kioa has got multiple data files, some of the other demos data folders weren't link-filed either, so you can see what they were made of (not movies).

Kioea by MadWizards - http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=59135

There's even a version of this production for the Falcon 060 - http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=49931

And for more Dead Hackers sweet production values, this is a nice little intro -http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=24780

Re: BBC Radio four program about chiptunes

I listened to it. Nice introduction to the concept of chip music, but a bit too Gameboy-centric, especially the first half. We did get a bit more diverse later, but I didn't get any sense of the broadness of chip music overall, just a narrow look at certain parts of that scene.

Re: How good was the Falcon?

Short(ish) opinion, The Falcon 030 can be considered as a colourful and fast STE with great sound, if that is what you were after. Certainly it would appeal to hardcore Atari fans like myself. I wish it had got a new case. The unreleased Microbox Falcon is what it should have been. Objectively speak...

Re: Atari 8 bit emulator for the ST

The only 'full' Atari XL emulator for the ST family was Petr Stehliks one, which needs CT60 class hardware to run at or better than full speed. He stated it got to 40 percent with an Afterburner card.

This was portable code running on a number of platforms so assume not optimised.

Legends of Valour springs to mind.

The game with enhanced PeeCee level graphics that was supposed to be one of the Falcon launch titles, but got lost, allegedly due to a dispute between management types at Atari and US Gold/SSI.

Re: Were STEs produced in smaller numbers compared to STF/STFMs?

I had an STe back at the time and I never felt like I was getting anything better than the regular STfm. Well, the day that I expanded the memory to 1Mb I did enjoy a cheaper price because of the DIMM support on the board. To this day, I am still not sure I have ever played a game that used the bli...
