Re: Quake 2 on Falcon030

I thought all Pentiums after 200 mhz were MMX... or maybe it was 233. Anyway, I can confirm I used to run Quake II on my Pentium 133 (not mmx), but at full screen the frame rate was a little low, I would take the borders in 2 steps. I can't remember how much RAM I had at the time, it definitely ran ...

Re: Refurbish an Atari ST in Bad shape ?

is it possible to give the atari st a soapy bath to fix stains and clean all the dirt and bad smells ? or perhaps a vacuum. Actually I do both, just hire a carpet cleaning machine from your local hardware shop, lay the ST on the ground, set the machine to a hot-water vacuum cycle and drive it over ...

Re: Hatari on TT ?

This probably isn't helpful but I remember Pacifist used to run on a 486 DX 2 / 66 with 8mb of RAM or something, and ran the ST at full speed. And didn't WinSTon run on my P133 in Windows 95? I can't remember... But anyway, Pacifist was very lite, and a 486 DX 2/66 is only about 3 x as powerful as a...

Re: Geeky song, filmclip a BASIC demo

Lol, really? That's the most common computer I could think of with a green screen, but I thought the case looked wrong, that wedge shape I remember isn't there EDIT and I thought I remembered a full keyboard.... but looking at pics now I can see the wedged front end was on the underside, and it was ...

Geeky song, filmclip a BASIC demo

I thought some people might enjoy this if you haven't seen it already.
It looks like the filmclip for this song is a very simple, text-based BASIC demo on an old, 8-bit computer with a green screen (I don't know what it is, it doesn't look like an Apple IIe)

Very impressive, I liked that bubble bobble model too! (Although I'm sure it's not the most technical part of the demo).
Nice music, more relaxed than many demo's we see

Re: Were Atari just out of their league in the end?

PC hardware was cheap, it was modular, and it ran Windows and DOS which had the most support. For that software support side, think about Android with Google Playstore today, vs Microsoft/Nokia app support, or these even smaller operating systems like the Firefox one, or Samsungs Tizen. Even if they...

Re: wanted Falcon Computer

Wasn't Sydney's group called ACE? Eh, it could have been. Maybe I'm wrong, but what I do know is I lived in NSW at the time but I never heard anything from them. I knew about MACE and QACE, and even some die-hard dealer in WA who hung on selling Atari stuff into the late 90's (I still have some of ...

Re: wanted Falcon Computer

Funnily enough back in the day it seemed they were more common in QLD too. And least common in NSW. There was MACE and QACE, but never a Sydney version... at least, not one that I'd heard about, they must have been low profile if they existed. Dad bought my first ST from Qace, their main hardware gu...

I didn't realise you had moved to Australia, mikro, welcome! I actually grew up close to Brisbane and have lots of family there. If I move back (which I've been thinking about) there might almost be enough people up there to revive the old club, QACE ;-)

Re: 8-way scrolling system for prototyping games on STE

Well, I've barely written a hello world on the Atari but it seems you put so much effort into this, Doug, that I almost feel obliged to have a go at these tutorials. I did C 101 on Unix at uni 15 years ago, so I have a tiny bit of literacy in the tools at hand. I'll start reading through the tutoria...

Hi New to the site. I have a falcon that has died on me so looking for a new one, not an expert just like living in the past. No one here that I know of who can fix it. Re: C2P speed on plain ST for flat polygons

Thanks a lot for your reply, Kalms! 4-plane, higher polygon count is probably getting away from the ST's strengths anyway. I was just curious, personally I've only done basic 3d tutorials in C on the PC but was starting to think about approaches on the ST
