DSP upgrade
What do people think of the idea of a DSP upgrade for the Falcon? In terms of difficulty, expense, and benefit. Aside from people overclocking their DSP's (up to 64mhz) it hasn't really had the same attention over the years as what the CPU has! It seems the DSP 56k family didn't stop development unt...

Re: Quake 2 on Falcon030
I have accelerated DSP and everything worked fine so far (stock CPU/BUS speed) Great to know, this backs up Doug's answer - the DSP can be much faster and everything will still work. It seems it would not be worth his effort though, to throw more work at the DSP if it's detected running faster so t...

Re: DSP for Firebee
Bumping an old thread but just curious, why implement DSP in VHDL/FPGA when real 56k DSP chips are not very expensive? At least, looking on NXP/Freescale/Motorola's website they still seem to be selling DSP's in the 56k / Symphony family for $5 - $10 per unit. Sorry if it's a stupid question, I don'...

Re: Quake 2 on Falcon030
Do you think there is any scope to take advantage of overclocked DSP's? I assume you have manually balanced the workloads between the CPU and DSP in their stock form (and rightly so) and having a faster DSP can't really be taken advantage of, but just curious. I remember people OC'd their DSP's with...

Re: Just another Blitter demo
Well, yes, I think "beat dis" can be beaten. However, the current approach aims for flexibility and is meant to be useful for game development. In fact, the routine is able to display 20 sprites without restoring the background (clear only), so it's already quite fast I guess. I think you've alread...

Re: STE Space Harrier?
I asked Ppera (seeing as he hacked around with it a bit and made a hard drive, more compatible version). He doesn't post here anymore.
He said it definitely doesn't use any STE features.

Re: Catch me if you can - now free !
I should add, in Steem I have a weird screen-wrapping behaviour with the mouse. If I move the cursor out to the right side it will appear on the left, BUT the buttons no longer work so you can't click on anything. The first time I loaded the game it was ignoring my clicks and I just restarted it, bu...

Re: Catch me if you can - now free !
No worries. I'm playing it now, Easy levels are very.... easy
But love the concept, going onto harder levels now!
It seems to work with 2MB also.
So min reqs are TOS 2.06 + 2MB of ram

OK, works with that config. Sorry, I played with ram and TOS versions but must have missed that combo.

Re: 90 degree rotated screen acceptable for a conversion?
MMy old HP 19 inch LCD is on a stand and easily rotated 90 degrees (in fact this is how I have it right now when used as a second screen on my PC. Goes next to the 27 incher, it's about the same height when on its side)

Re: Janus Atari ST emulator
I'm curious, with all the reverse engineering of the shifter etc lately, and the fact that the custom ST chips are emulated in FPGA in MiST etc.... what does this board do? Does it contain original, custom ST chips?

Re: Steem download outdated?
Umm - dare I say it, that website could possibly do with a teensy bit of a design overhaul. The links all seem to suffer from random sizes and highlighting and it's not entirely clear to the casual visitor what they should be clicking on. There are far too many links that go straight back to Steem ...

I want to make it joystick controlled so that you can run left/right and jump, and then I'll use up the rest of the (512K) memory with more scenic objects. I've no idea about sound. If anyone wants to volunteer a simple tune and tell me how to play it I could add that, memory willing. Very impressi...

Re: Steem download outdated?
I have emailed every email address I could find (from the steem.atari.st site, and the github) suggesting they put a note in the steem download page that steem 3.2 is 12 years old, and SSE Steem is a currently maintained branch of it.
