don't forget how long it took to make the ct60 or the ethernat.. or minimig. and all these projects use asics (68060, ethernet controller, 68000, respectively). it seems a fully compatible FPGA 680x0 implementation is a pretty hard thing. though i don't doubt it's impossible.. a one-chip STe would b...

sounds like the "super blitter" opted for by the nature brothers. it was supposed to be part of the supervidel board. now that ethernat is released they may pick it up again.

the harddisk (conner) is notorious for being crappy and probe to headcrashes. i had two of them and they both lasted about 6 months each! my advice is to replace it immediately with a laptop harddisk. the floppy cable is indeed a problem since it probably requires soldering. you could maybe put up s...

i came back to this thread because i needed an inverse square root for a specific effect on ST.. i think what i have here is a quite nice one. it is very much like the "bitwise" sqrt (successive approximation) like shown plenty of times here in this thread. enjoy! ; inverse square root computation: ...

was looking at the screens yesterday. some very nice stuff in there! i like the nastiness in some code: stuff from easyrider, big jumptables, even blitter stuff here and there.

as far as exec packers go: upx ain't bad, it takes long to compress but has really fast decompression. and better-than-zip pack ratio. form the peecee scene there is ryg/farbrausch's kkruchy tool. which uses lz+arith coding iirc. it was inspired by PAQ but is probably a bit faster and more practical...

the overlanders 3d is very good. i think it's only topped in demo land by the synergy demo (all 1 VBL: the pacman shape is just fornicating amazing there), but synergy made a mistake by wanting everything 1 VBL in my eyes, limiting the complexity of the scenes more than the overlanders screen. i gue...

cool stuff! somehow st format always knew to get the readers excited. it's cool that this stuff is scanned now. maybe someone should do an st format preservation archive (or does it exist already)?

wish i had those issues of st format back in the day. for my taste i learned asm too late..
