instruction pairing (again?)

i'm making a little routine for ST and would like it to be as fast as possible. instruction pairing is one of those areas where i think i might win 4 cycles in total or so.. move.w (a1)+,d0 ; 8 add.w d0,d0 ; 4 move.w (a1)+,d1 ; 8 add.w d1,d1 ; 4 move.w (a2,d0.w),d2 ; 14 (16) move.w (a3,d0.w),d3 ; 14...

hi b.o.b.: 1) GP2X rules! i got 2 of them, and one with a cradle. just checked the recent batch of new games and there are some gems. the demos aren't quite there yet, but.. i'm also devving a little bit on it.. maybe in some year there'll be a demo.. i see GP2X as a sort of delayed evolution of the...

saw it now, the graphics are impressive. the collision detection and controls are annoying, though. there is nice paralaxing but at 25 fps or so. indeed the gore is not abundant at all in this game, with enemies disappearing in green columns of smoke, instead of getting splattered all over the meado...

well, atari documented the blitter quite well, even with programming examples.. and STe hardware scrolling made syncscroll obsolete. up to the TT every hardware register was completely documented by Atari corp. but with the Falcon they changed that (sadly). I'll have to check out that Deathbringer t...

a full map?? holy poo.. i guess you'd need to hack the program and let it print out coordinates and names for each sector.. doing it by hand is almost hopeless, unless you are only looking for the core systems.. BTW nice and offtopic again :)) : in case some of you didn't know yet: it's possible to ...

Indeed the ST was sort of in-between amiga/mac thing made with off-the-shell components. The amiga was indeed intended to be a games machine from the beginning. This was Jay Miner's team's speciality. Later on commodore wanted to make it a real "PC" type thing which became the A1000 and was of cours...

i tried ethernec on my ct60 and it just hangs the machine on boot. in 030 mode: CRC error in ROM, and infinite reset in 060 mode.

anyone have any similar experience?

i stand corrected. there are indeed various diffrences between revisions of the ST (ST, mega, STe). getting a full overscan that works good on all ST models would indeed require some study (although i have only ever done top and bottom overscan).

and my first falcon game (i sold the ST to raise money for the Falcon!): i think it was black hole or that GEM breakout from the system disks ;) now those were major downers.. the only thing nice was the sampled sound, animation was non-existant and gameplay very 1980. the first really enjoyable fal...

btw, re-reading this my original post to this thread (and the enormous mountain of posts after that! 8-)) i have to make a correction: the first -colour- game on ST i saw was defender of the crown: being played on a big screen TV with scart.. I couln't believe this thing could play samples. actually...

nyh: heartland2000 was pretty cool and indeed it's very compatible. about games using syncscroll: it's possible to switch to STe/Falcon/TT vbase_low byte. more efficient but less elegant because of needing 2 code paths.. MI2 on the ST sounds cool. I would have -loved- that back in the day. But now i...

the ST blitter isn't so horrible because: 1) it has a barrel shifter. this is pretty cool for blitting sprites. you can also preshift sprites on plain ST but that takes loads of mem. 2) it can do fast XOR poly filling as seen in in Aggression's braindamage, for example. 3) it's pretty fast when doin...
