Re: Arduino experts

Some of the parts arrived so time to start soldering. I realised that an old wireless k&m combo I had in a box has the necessary ps2 plugs and small plastic box that I am hoping I can fit the adapter into. The level converter I got looks like it is bidirectional, it has 5V and 3.3V pins, I am not su...

Re: MMX

I am converting some old movies from my failing PVR drive using a script on a Linux box. I noticed that this is using MMX and other features. x264 [info]: using cpu capabilities: MMX2 SSE2Fast SSSE3 SSE4.2 AVX I think the script is using ffmpeg so I guess even apps compiled for Freemint could make u...

Re: Case

I don't have a Firebee, I just happened to notice that it might fit. Most normal computer cases are usually much too big.

Case

I was about to chuck a Metronic Sat TV box in the recycling because it no longer works very well, it has to be manually tuned.

I wondered if it was about the right size for a Firebee so I measured it. It's just about 26cm long inside so it might be a squeeze. The backplate would need a bit of work.

Re: Arduino experts

I didn't think of that. I know very little about the arduino so I am trying to stay close to the original so I have a chance to get it working. My ps/2 wireless mouse failed so I wanted to get it going as soon as possible. However it started working again after 3 hours of fiddling about. No idea why...

Re: Arduino experts

I've ordered one of these:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-SAMD21-M ... 2749.l2649

I've all ready ordered a level converter for between the ps/2 connections and the arduino.

Re: Arduino experts

That's what I thought.

Started looking for a suitable board but got distracted by forcing lubuntu to update to version 20.

Re: Arduino experts

I found the missing Deb packages for Python 3.7 and installed them and VS Code was able to install the PlatformIO plugin. Hopefully I can get this Arduino app built now but it might need a better Arduino, I think this is a nano clone. If I can get the Mouse usb to ps/2 adapter to work then I might s...

Re: Arduino experts

I am using Lubuntu 18.04 so I installed VS Code but the Platformio plug complained about python3-distutils being missing. I tried to install it but keep getting a 404 error. So I tried to upgrade Lubuntu but it looks like it cannot be upgraded past 18.04 since they changed the desktop !! Not exactly...

Re: Arduino experts

Thanks, I wasn't going to spot that.

I have all ready done most of what you describe but I am not clear which samd21 lib to install.

It looks like Platformio needs another ide (VSCode).

Hi, I briefly dabbled with an arduino about 5 years ago and I am trying to build the project below but now having much luck. https://github.com/ChrisDeadman/Usb2Ps2Mouse/blob/master/src/main.cpp I moved most of the libs to the folder /home/peters/snap/arduino/current/Arduino/libraries and squashed t...

Re: Arduino USB keyboard adapter ?

The tips on wiring it are lost on me so any help appreciated.

1. purple - straight through 5V power ?
2. black - ground ?
3. blue x2 - serial ? (not sure if my arduino has this)
4. white x2 - clock and data ?

Re: MMX

The mint and emutos communities are quite active so it could be added there unless it is more of a vdi or aes thing. I know that mmu was discussed and not added to vampire because the Amiga doesn't need it. This is why I asked if MMX could be added on its own. I realise there are lots difficulties h...

Re: Arduino USB keyboard adapter ?

I am trying to work out what hardware is needed. 1. ATSAMD21G18 (developed on SparkFun SAMD21 Mini Breakout) This looks like it is obsolete. I have an old Arduino but don't know if it would be suitable. 2. I think the other board is a level converter from 5V to 3.3V 3. USB OTG (on the go) connector ...

Re: Arduino USB keyboard adapter ?

Digging up one of my old topics. My wireless ps2 mouse has started playing up. I think it is failing so I had to find a working ps2 mouse and all I could find was my 20 year old wired one which is horrible. So I had another search for an adapter and I think I've found a solution. https://github.com/...

MMX

Just chucking an idea out. I know nothing about MMX but talk about it on the apollo-vampire forum got me interested. It was an Intel idea to speed up graphics processing and depends on software using it though extra opcodes. I wondered if an fpga MMX coprocessor could be created ? No use for old app...

Re: Nim (programming language) on the Atari

The language seems to rely on indentation for grouped statements (obviously inspired by python). I consider that one of the biggest nonsense ever made, and reminds me of early versions of COBOL and FORTRAN... not something that i would call a modern programming language. Yaml has the same retrograd...

Re: Extend the sound system for MiNT

I have always had issues with sound on the Milan with Mint. I suspect the issue isn't in mint, more likely to be drivers.

Doom sound worked once upon a time but not for many years.

This is like the stuff I bought

It can be scored and snapped in straight lines, drilled or glued.

Re: Atari Santa? What’s your wish?

A nice, fast, minimal, Vampiresque 68060 replacement that could be added to CT60, Milan, Hades and maybe even some Amigas.

Seasons greetings to retro computer fans everywhere.
