Re: Let's see your desks n stuff?

I admire your joystick. Thanks :) Joel - what's that keyboard in the first photo? It's super slimline, and would save me a couple of vital centimeters of desk space! That's one of the newer Apple keyboards. That's a wired one but you can get wireless variants (never been a fan of those though). It'...

Re: Let's see your desks n stuff?

I'll just treat you to a picture of my work in progress walk in closet/computer- and videogame collection Crap, that's one nice looking cupboard-o-doom! I had a lot of retro stuff up untill lately when I downsized to afford my new computer. :( Here's what (mess) I've got going on right now: Awful c...

Re: Atari Parts - Any Use To Anyone

I seem to remember a very similar auction a while back where the guy had a picture of a small pile of parts, most of which looked like junkers. I think this is essentially only worth it for the manual there, which is not worth £50!

Re: Piracy killed the video game?

Even Bill Gates acknowleged the benefits of piracy during the 1990s with his statement: "As long as people are going to steal software, we want them to steal ours". Which raises another good point. With Windows being probably the most pirated of all software, Microsoft are the richest software comp...

Re: Piracy killed the video game?

Kega Fusion is pretty damn great and nigh on perfect. The guy who programmed it did work for Sega at one point though ;)

Megadrive games are two a penny, it's worth checking out a boot sale or two, you are likely to grab a system plus a stack of games for next to nothing.

Re: Piracy killed the video game?

The rom copiers may have had an impact but only really in Asia and North America since we didn't see too many over here. They actually started appearing soon after the Megadrive was released. I have one for the SNES from 1992. They didn't stop these consoles going on for about 10 years or more thoug...

Re: Piracy killed the video game?

Ok, looking at the facts: The Megadrive/Genesis stopped production in December '97 (certainly lasted a lot longer outside Europe than I knew about!) and the last game released in early '98. The first usable emulator to be released was also '97 (June 30th to be precise) and that was Genecyst. Though ...

Re: FirST BASIC - Any cop?

I had STOS years ago but had no idea about coding back then nor any interest so just ended up playing with the animation studio (which was great btw). I just always said I'd code something on the ST and the time to do so is slipping away! May have a go with STOS again then, I still have it after 15 ...

Re: Piracy killed the video game?

How did the Megadrive brand die? Because PC's can emulate them, and the cycle continues. Get the gist yet? Does Mr Gates spring to mind, and Mr Jobs? (although to a lesser extent) The end of the Megadrive's life came about 3 years before PCs could just about run a few games (slowly and badly). -Joel

FirST BASIC - Any cop?

I just dug out a manual for HiSoft's FirST BASIC and wondered if anyone thought this was any good to get started with and if it is, where I can download a copy since I have the manual right here. I believe this came with the discovery pack. If it sucks, what's the best intro to basic on the ST? I tr...

Wow, I didn't know this reply existed!

I actually found some of the disks I was after listed in an ST Format (actually, I think it only appeared in that one issue) but this is great info and quite interesting!

If you manage to dig up any more info ManicMyna, let us know!

I got my ST from evesham micros and they threw in neochrome and the B.I.G. demo as well Finally someone else who had the B.I.G. Demo with their ST! Sure I had Neochrome too. I had all the super pack games too but no idea where it was bought. Certain it wasn't Evsham though since it was bought at a ...

Re: Cleaning a 1040STFM

There's also bits here to note, particularly the spacings of the rubber membrane bits on the keyboard. The ENTER key only has one That'd explain why it seems every time I take one of these apart one seems to go walkies. I do end up skipping one of the ENTER key membranes though so that's a spot of ...

Last time I cleaned my keyboard I just popped all the keys off and dumped them in warm soapy water in the sink, then used a shower head to shine 'em up.

Once towel dried they came up good as new.

Re: STOT season 1 round 15 Lotus 3 High Score thread

Loved Lotus II on my ST. Had three on the Amiga but by then the magic was gone. Jag XJ220 pretty much blew it out of the water.
so I suggest a championship mode level: hard (3rd icon) competition
Best time?

Didn't realise Hatari was open source either.. interesting :)

I mean using fdrawcmd.sys to control the actual floppy drive. This makes your PC floppy sound like it's accessing disks as the ST would have.

Re: Keyboard hardware problem with Atari St what to do?

Fleabay = Ebay ;) It sounds like it was hit so hard the tabs that keep the keyboard in place were broken. There is almost certainly damage in that case to the keyboard PCB meaning if you have a soldering iron and a multi-meter you may be able to fix it. Short of that I could have a look at it for yo...
