Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Is the stick write-protected ? Nope. Then I'm not sure exactly why. Sounds like some quirky USB device. Unfortunately I have plenty of USB sticks around and none of them exhibit bad behaviour such as this. It may be that Windows has a workaround specifically for this device, as there are many USB d...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Try todays drivers. You'll probably still get the error partitioning, but you should be able to partition your device on Windows now and use it directly if you use BigDOS. So you don't need to use HDDRUTIL/HDDRIVER or CBHD/CBHDCONF anymore. Will do! The previous attempt didn't involve BIGDOS at all...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Right. Subject to BigDOS constraints. I used a 1.5GB FAT16 partition. It has to be FAT16 - Type 0x06.

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Hope you had a great Christmas Allan! I just tried the 2412 drivers. Here's the results: - My old USB sticks still refuses to be detected at boot and the boot just freezes. Same as before. - OBHD gives the same error as before; "Fehler beim Partitionieren!" - HDDRiver; if I run it without their dri...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

O.k. I saw a few issues yesterday and just committed fixes. Should be in tomorrows build.

Shouldn't be any need to change the partitioning.

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Oh, and remember USB is hot swappable, so as long as you've got USB.ACC installed too, you can hotplug these to your hearts content.

Happy Christmas !

:D :D :D

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

BigDOS 8 is available here. http://rainer-seitel.onlinehome.de/bigdos.html Install it, after the USB drivers into the AUTO folder. USB.PRG STORAGE.PRG UNICORN.PRG BIGDOS.PRG Then your Windows-only FAT16 partitions will be usable on the desktop, from 32MB to 2GB I believe. Ensure any Atari partitions...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

BigDOS won't take effect with TOS/Windows partitions as TOS will automatically be used. I've just made some changes here and I've used it with BigDOS on a 1.5GB (Windows only) FAT16 partition on the Unicorn. This will allow folks to use USB sticks partitioned on a Windows machine directly on the Ata...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Just fixed some issues today with HDDRUTIL 10.x. Drivers from today (22nd) should be pretty good. Not having any issues here.

Anyone using HDDRIVER and not really needing it, should try without it now.

I might play around with BigDOS after some sleep.

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Oh, as for PC partitions I think using BigDOS will allow access to FAT16 partitions formatted on a PC. I've never tried BigDOS though.

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

The TOS/Windows thing always catches people out, and this isn't strictly related to the Unicorn. This happens with any media formatted for TOS, whether that's IDE or SCSI too. Since the floppy disks formatted on a ST works fine on a PC, I assumed it would be possible to get it working with a "HD" a...

As for instability, have you got the latest drivers from today or are you still running from a week ago or so ?

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

CBHDCONF doesn't make the partitions TOS & Windows compatible, just TOS. HDDRUTIL can make them TOS & Windows compatible though.

I'm just debugging HDDRUTIL 10.x with the Unicorn drivers which have some more issues.

Oh, what do you mean by "I bring it to the desktop and format it (FAT)" ???

Nothing should need formatting. The partitioner does it all.

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Ok... I tested a card reader with an old CF card that I had used on an Amga years ago. Now I could actually partition the card... so I reset the computer, booted with CBHD disk and added a C: drive.. It works, amazing! Then I copied sysinfo to it, that worked, but when I tried to run it from C I go...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Thanks for the video! I am doing pretty much what you are doing, differences are: 1. I don't have a USB hub, I just connect my USB stick directly to the Unicorn. I could try a card reader I suppose, if that is at all possible? 2. My memory stick comes up as SCSI ID 0 and not 1 in CBHDCONF. Its also...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

I've just setup my STE with the latest USB drivers, and CBHDCONF and made a video of it. I used a 16GB USB 3.0 stick and then setup a 22MB, partition. Then rebooted my STE and installed the C: drive and copied SYSINFO.PRG to it, and then ran SYSINFO.PRG from the C: drive which is on the USB stick. h...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

One thing to try, is leave the USB stick disconnected. Boot up with all the drivers loaded, and then load HDDRUTIL.

If that loads up, then plug the USB stick in, and in the menu of HDDRUTIL you can "Detect Devices" to see if that finds anything or crashes ?

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

O.k. might be some changes with HDDRUTIL 10.x as I've not yet tried that with the Unicorn. Only 9.x.

I'll see if I can reproduce anything with CBHDCONF though. What size USB stick are you using ?

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Oh, and just because it gets detected at boot, doesn't mean it finds any partitions.

That's just the USB scan to find out what USB devices are plugged in.

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

ICD isn't SCSIDRV compatible so ignore that one.

HDDRUTIL.APP crashes at what point ? Is there a HDDRUTIL.INF file around, if so delete it, and try starting in medium resolution.

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

You don't need to load HDDRIVER, CBHD or ICDBOOT.

Just run either, HDDRUTIL.APP or CBHDCONF.APP.
