Re: New Atari Mega style case for STF / STFM / STE and Falcon, Maybe
I really like the idea of keeping the original bottom part of the case. I'd insist on placing the keyboard connector on the add-on part, without need of modifying the original bottom part of the case. A good place for it would be right side, in the area where FDD originally was located. As for the f...

Re: Megafile 60 problems
So it doesn't see low level sectors on track 0. You have to (low level) format it prior to partitioning. Of course then you will lose any data that was left on it.

Re: Atari 800xl - bargain or steer clear?!
Not enough information to give any answer. It can be something trivial, as well as something beyond economical repair. Of course everything can be repaired/rebuild. Some chips may be hard to find, especially now, when borders are closed (and will likely stay closed for next year). Some of these chip...

If you look closely it is exactly the same board... only with TCXO populated. Look at the GAL stickers.mikro wrote:It looks like this one described on old-computers.com:

Assuming it works, I guess you need a Mega STE and TOS 2.07 at least.

I always used their services: http://mydata.pl/ but they don't have site in English. You may also try to contact this lab: https://sgdata.eu/ (also in Poland). Both I know, and trust them... and not all recovery labs you can trust. I know cases where recovery lab irreversibly damaged the media after...

Re: Megafile 60 problems
Any internal FDD for the PC should be compatible with ST, and for USB drives Sony drives are, for sure MPF82E is. For USB drives only standard MS-DOS format is supported (but DS-DD 720 kB is supported). For the Atari it is required to have TOS 1.04 or newer to support MS-DOS formatted disks... but I...

HxC is FPGA (Altera MAX), Gotek is ARM Cortex M3... There is an HxC firmware for Gotek, and there is an internal mounting version of FPGA-based HxC.

Re: Atari STE only boot in High Res
1,3V on any output of TTL chip indicates a bad chip... as /OE is hard tied to GND on this chip all outputs should be "solid" 0 V or 5 V (well, it may be little different, but within TTL accepted range). So it looks like U405 is faulty. Of course 1 Ω resistance between any input and GND also confirms...

Re: Megafile 60 problems
Have you tried to load an ICD Pro driver from a floppy disk? Have you tried Putnik's HDD driver? Maybe only autoboot area was damaged. Atari needs a HDD driver to recognize an ACSI hard drive. You can find ICD Pro disk image here: http://joo.kie.sk/?page_id=306 ...or here: https://sites.google.com/s...

Isn't it just a regular LED? I guess, the "lens" is separate, like in SH205/Megafile.

Re: Compo software dual tos 1.62 / 2.06 rom images - where to find?
Yes, but I don't remember which is which. If it won't boot, just swap the chips... but the silkscreen on the STe board says HI/LO and I guess I have named the files according to that. Hi/Lo are more Intel, while O/E is more Motorola naming convention. But what is hi-byte for Intel is a lo-byte for M...

Re: Megafile 60 problems
UltraSatan is much faster than both SatanDisk and Megafile. SatanDisk, in the opposite, is very slow, especially on writes. Sorry, but you are talking nonsense. Those parameters, such as sector interleave or head skew, are relevant when you perform a physical format of the disk, and are important on...

Re: using external floppy disc drive to tranfer
You have to use DD (720 kB) disks, and format them on Atari. HD (1440 kB) disks work very unreliably with DD drives. Much more convenient way is to use UltraSatan, CosmosEx (SD card) or NetUSBee (USB or Ethernet), or at least GOTEK HxC.

Re: Megafile 60 problems
There was no standard way of keeping drive configuration, some controller keep the configuration in NVRAM, some keep it on the drive itself. It was common for that controllers to use sector interleave and head/platter sector skew, without this data, even if you could make a binary copy of sectors, i...

Re: Megafile 60 problems
It is not so easy operation with these drives. Remember that these drives had only mechanical parts and analogue front end on them, while the actual drive controller is on the card (in PC) or on the controller board in the HDD case. Details of the formatting depends on the controller BIOS, so it is ...

Re: Compo software dual tos 1.62 / 2.06 rom images - where to find?
There is no special version, you just split it into even and odd bytes, and concatenate "even" images of both TOS versions, and "odd" images of both versions. You have to make a physical switch to alter highest address bit of EPROM in order to select lower or upper part of it (to choose TOS version ...

It runs fine on STeEM SSE 4.0.0 but only on STF or STFM and TOS 1.02 - either UK or US. Don't know why you press 1, because it starts on right mouse button (or joystick fire).

Re: Syncing ST/STE clock with host
As these machines don't have native RTC, I would like to use an AUTO folder programme, for example, as I used to do back in 1990 to read the RTC of the attached hard disk host adapter. That's not true, these machines do have RTC, it is only not battery backed up. Using the inbuilt RTC is also a lit...
