Serial port

Hey guys, I want a program on my PC to be able to talk to a STOS program running in Steem. It is entirely possible my problem is with STOS, not Steem, so I've also cross-posted to that forum here . I've configured my Steem serial port to be a file on my PC. I can write to this file in STOS by printi...

Re: The Atari ST/E Youtube thread

not mine but from "Nostalgia Nerd" youtube user: Atari Jaguar Story (Who is he? Is he member of this forum?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61Nz0vkxO-M 42 minutes! I don't think he is a member, but his videos really are top notch - well worth watching. He covers lots of retro aspects too - not jus...

Re: Something worth sharing

Never had a problem with an ST (apart from an ominous buzzing noise coming out of the PSU that got louder the longer it was turned on), but my speccy just flat out silenced the downstairs radio when it was turned on. I cant express how angry I got when my mum told me to turn it off. She wanted some ...

This seems odd in 2016 - is there an '80s / '90s flashback scene or something?

Steve Bak explained in an interview that Microdeal big boss wanted expressly an amiga version with huge sprites. Can you please get a link for this - I want to read more about Microdeal. Argh nevermind, I guess this was a magazine interview... Oh dlfsilver, there are some funny comments by you on a...

Argh, well I think the Amiga wins this one, I feel dirty saying that out loud, on here. Sorry. Hey Zeusdaz, I know it must be a pain to set up, but these sorts of videos benefit from playlist links in the description - like in Gaming History Source's videos. Re: Flight Sims

I played the ST Format cover demo of MiG 29 Fulcrum - I thought it was really nice, the first flightsim where I realised mouse control was better than digital joystick. It was quite nice dogfighting in that game, you could hang around behind an enemy plane quite nicely as it rolled trying to get rid...

Re: Flight Sims

The ST had some great flight sims. Yeah the frame rate wasn't great, and got worse towards the end of the machines life when they tried fitting too much in. Some great examples are F-16 Combat Pilot, F-16 Falcon, F-15 Strike Eagle (1, 2 & 3), F-29 Retaliator. Plus you've got Carrier Command and Armo...

Re: Problems with Windows 10

Hmm, I had a similar experience with Steem recently - I'm on Windows 10 (not sure if that is important though) and Steem crashed at a particular point during a game. Each time I restarted Steem it played the exact same thing & crashed immediately again. A reinstall did fix it.

Re: Biased eBay guide

I'm not seeing much fanboyism here? He's talking about A500 v STFM - by far the most common models at that time - I think that's fair, right? Most of those statements ring true for me, and I was firmly placed in the ST camp at the time & since. What are you're problems with that he's saying?

Re: Atari email archive 1982 - 1992

Yes I know that, but there are mentions of the 8-bit Atari hardware, so I was hoping for ST content too. Well actually I saw mentions of POKEY chips, but it looks like they used in their arcade cabinets too, so maybe there is nothing to do with computers in there. I still think someone may find it a...

Atari email archive 1982 - 1992

Hey everyone I found on reddit an interesting page containing internal emails in Atari between 1982 & 1992. They cover the ST years, but I haven't yet seen any mention of STs yet. There are however lots of technical information on gaming hardware, I'm sure it'll be interesting for some of you guys t...

Hi exxos I enjoyed this one too, and am looking forward to The Amiga Years sequel that is currently being worked on, even though it isn't ST focused. I hope they don't just bag the ST in it.

I tried FRAPS (v3.5.99) with Steem 3.7.2 and beta 3.8.0 and it just works, of course. Fullscreen or not, 50fps, nice big avi movies. I'm using up-to-date Vista for the record (got that one  ?) Huh, well you know what? I got it working too :) I think I didn't realise the startup options only a...

Recording games in emulators

Hey everyone, I've been meaning to make some YouTube videos including ST games, and have been trying to record emulators with little success so far: Steem - FRAPS will not record this at all (to do with how Steem writes video to the screen?) Hatari - FRAPS will not record (same reason as above?) but...

Just saw this song Rangers by Randa on tv here in Aus. The video has a few shots of an ST (in need of some all brite treatment I think). Nice to see some live for the machine still :)

I think it looks great, as a piece of concept art. Very slick. Given that it is designed as a PC case, its practical use is kind of meh.
