Re: Audio vs Amiga

Some of you guys are comparing apples with oranges, and arguing on this subject really is futile. There are two issues here: - Amiga has ST beat when playing sample based .MOD files. Most (I presume?) Amiga games had MOD soundtracks, with samples played at a higher frequency than an ST was capable o...

What was the original loader screen? This is the only one I've ever seen... Was it missing some of the other logos or something?

Have a look at Unity- that tool will do cross dev on a lot of machines, although some (including Mac & IOS devices) you'll have to pay for licenses. I dont think there is a way around that though?

Re: A non-Atari related game question (sort of)

I did start a course way back in 1994! vintage! :) a BTEC National in Computer Studies, sadly they dropped the Music and Animation video game modules and I changed to a music specific course, my original intention was to take up Artificial Intelligence @ Uni. A lot of the computer video game relate...

Re: Should we be afraid to use any name related to Atari?

Maybe if a website feels compelled to remove all mentions of Atari, they should instead use a similar name. I suggest:

TWATari.

Hmmm, maybe the connotation is based too heavilly on UK English, but you get the idea.

I have neither the knowhow, the time nor the inclination, but if you could get a port of the Mono project onto the firebee, you'd suddenly have a glut of .Net developers (including me) able to write applications.

Re: New 2011 Commodore Amiga range!

Sorry to be controversial on this... I haven't owned a Commodore machine since my first home computer, which was a Vic20. This thing looks great to me. If only the Atari guys, that own the brand name at the moment, had thought of this for the Atari platform. It would be brilliant. Admittedly, it's ...

Perhaps these are attempts to 'protect' their trademarks, as if they are not seen to attempt to protect them, they lose them?

It looks like the current Atari corp are attempting to protect their trademark, by sending cease & desists to atari related websites (or atleast atari2600.org): http://games.slashdot.org/story/11/08/22/1959255/Atari-Targets-Retro-Community-With-Cease-amp-Desist What do people thing about this, and w...

Re: Streamed background for games

I suspect this is a step too far for the ST - I'd be happy to be proved wrong though :) Reading / unpacking / displaying so much info would take a significant chunk of processor time, on top of (presumably) your own game display code, AI, etc, etc. Megadrive would have had custom chips for that sort...

I used to live in a small rural town in the south west of the UK, and the only source I had for games (apart from through mates, but we all had the same source) was a guy called Pirate Pete, and he would copy a single disk for 50p! His house always had visitors, its a wonder the neighbours didnt dob...

Dont forget the Atari Forum Wiki - this could be a great resource (aside from the domain availability issues we sometimes get)
