Oh, okay, I thought that they were old drivers that Idek recently rebuilt. My bad. There is not a lot of information on the website, it's actually quite hard to find out who's doing what :)

Re: new Nova drivers

May I ask how are the drivers generated? Are the sources available somewhere? I can't find anything, only some raw documentation of the ET4000 chipset.

Re: Bad Apple by Fenarinarsa (Atari STe demo) !!!!!

Very nice STe version of Bad Apple Fenarinarsa :D , see with my slow Satandisk with bigs pauses to load the code. Great, that means my low buffer detection works :p Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work on my 4MB STE with UltraSATAN and HDDriver 10.10. It just stops on the intro screen with only a ...

Re: Bad Apple by Fenarinarsa (Atari STe demo) !!!!!

Yes, as I said before a monochrome version is completely possible. It needs some modifications of the generator to take into account the longer lines in memory and the higher number of lines. Also I'm not sure of the best way to handle the difference of framerate. In lowres it was easy, I switch to ...

Re: Bad Apple by Fenarinarsa (Atari STe demo) !!!!!

I like your prod a lot. I have one question: it seems that yo're not using whole screen, how much does that save? Yes I do, it's 320x200 so it's the whole regular screen. The borders can't be used unless you use fullscreen techniques, but they're not compatible with disk loading (HDD loading uses D...

Re: Bad Apple by Fenarinarsa (Atari STe demo) !!!!!

Oh my god another thread XD I didn't expect to have that many talks about this conversion. So yes it may be considered as a simple video codec, but as I'm originally a demo coder and I used my old skills to do that, you can also consider it to be a demo. It's up to anyone, I don't mind at all. As fo...

Steem 3.9.4

I don't understand what the following upgrade note means:

Code: Select all

- Sound: STE DMA sound in 16bit mono.

Pro Sound Designer in 16bit (Wings of Death, Lethal XCess STF).
I can't find a mention of 16bit sound anywhere else ? Nothing about it either in Pro Sound Designer descriptions.

Re: horizontal scrolling on ST

Interesting . I guess that he just wanted that it work on STE. Instead using/doing STE HW scroll based one. But, since video chip is different in STE, that syncscroll just wont work. That would be case of having fun instead thinking :D Well, if my memory's right it really works, that's why I pointe...

Re: horizontal scrolling on ST

I just found a very old screen completely by chance (I knew it existed but couldn't remember where and when it was released) : the New Generation Crew screen in Delirious Demo 4. I remember that Biggles (the coder) tried very hard to make the 4-bit syncscroll technique to work on STE because it wasn...

Re: *** R-TYPE DELUXE SOURCE CODE ***

Okay I added stage select & cheat code activation when the game starts (from unpacked files right now) But I think there is already all the logic to go from on stage to another, there is a main part that loops back to the beginning of the level when you beat the boss (if the cheat mode is not activa...

Re: *** R-TYPE DELUXE SOURCE CODE ***

Thanx for this. I think that I need to do new release of it. Any tips for some further changes (nothing big) ? I'm going to check the game difficulty level, I'm not the best player at R-Type but I can go as far as Level 5 easily in the original game, and on this version I hardly succeed in ending t...

Re: *** R-TYPE DELUXE SOURCE CODE ***

Here's my fixed version (source code only):

- fixed syntax errors in the original source code
- removed the (useless?) lower border opening for the sync function

Now the game works for any CPU frequency, here's a capture on Mega STE running at 8 and 16Mhz:

Re: *** R-TYPE DELUXE SOURCE CODE ***

I would not agree with that. There is 2 kind of memory in Mega STE : regular ST RAM and cache RAM. If CPU addressing some address what is already in cache it will be accessed 2x faster than when is not in cache. You're right, 16Mhz on MegaSTE actually makes no sense when you don't enable the 16k as...

Re: *** R-TYPE DELUXE SOURCE CODE ***

Yes there some errors are misleading in devpac 3 when it comes to macros. I also found that there is bugs, at least in stage 1 the boss has graphic glitches. However I recommend to build this using vasm on another system, it takes about 2 seconds. Devpac takes a lot more time and when I switch Hatar...

Re: best LCD monitor working with ATARI SCART

I bought the upscaler (available for ~30€ on amazon) and it works, the picture quality is okay, but it applies a deinterlace filter to the atari input (!!!). So when you open a menu on the desktop, the picture flickers a bit before stabilizing. In addition there's some lag (maybe 2 or 3 frames). At ...

Re: *** R-TYPE DELUXE SOURCE CODE ***

Btw. Unroll is more efficient even with cache. Especially if we loop short code - because no dbf or other jumps to loop begin, which just eat CPU time, while doing nothing "useful" . Yes, there's the jump test time, but it all depends on the size of the loop itself, given that the cache avoids memo...

Re: *** R-TYPE DELUXE SOURCE CODE ***

Like in this block ? x set 0 rept 10 movem.l d0-d7/a2-a6,x(a0) x set x+(4*13) endr x is not a label, it's a macro variable defined to 0, then the block between REPT and ENDR is repeated 10 times. x is incremented by 4*13 between each REPT loop. That's because on ST it's more efficient to unroll loop...

Re: *** R-TYPE DELUXE SOURCE CODE ***

Has someone even tried to run this ? :) It doesn't assemble directly in Devpac, there's some typos in the source code. But after fixing two "(" missing and some REPT located on the same lines than labels (which devpac seems not to like), it works. Don't forget to ICE-unpack the levels with a tool li...

Re: ST and STE interlaced video signal

I don't have much experience with interlaced systems, but I'm not sure it would be correct. Let's say you have an horizontal line going down one scan line per field (50 or 60 fps). You display the line at scans 0,1 and 2. In a non interlaced system it appears at physical scan lines 0,2 and 4. But i...

Re: ST and STE interlaced video signal

Interesting topic :) I wondered if something interesting would surface with the ASIC designs now found. Well, just enabling interlace always and by default would break compatibility. Any kind of animation running at 50 (or 60) fps, won't display correctly. What were supposed to be two consecutive fr...

Re: New to Atari STE need help

SCART with RGB inputs was mandatory in France on every TV set sold between 1981 and 2014.

As a result I know no example of any Atari computer of the ST/TT line that was sold with an RF modulator in France. They all were always provided with an RGB SCART cable.
