Re: NVDI 5.03 installation.

I've been playing with NVDI and Easydraw 2 to see if I can get printed output via PCL. This app uses GDOS and prints via outprint. It always prints in landscape though. It splits a single portrait page into two. Half the content is on one page and half on the other. I've set the page size to a4 and ...

Re: Y2K date fix for 2017?

This worked for me. 1) Modify the ultrasatan set and get clock to handle dates < 2000. 2) Set the date to 1988 3) Use Troed's RTC Dallas patch. The computer now has the correct date with TOS 1.6 :) Prebuilt usatan clock binaries here https://www.dropbox.com/s/h9pfpj00fwa76qp/clock.zip?dl=0 along wit...

Re: Y2K date fix for 2017?

Looks like I'll need to modify the ultrasatan clock save utility to allow dates < 2000. With this and Troed's patch will this fix the time stamp problems on tos 1.x ?

Re: Games which benefit from 16 mhz + cache on the Mega Ste

I should clarify something. I didn't mean games that could use the cache. I actually meant games that improve framerate wise if it has been enabled.
Eg going from 3 vbl to two etc. :)

Re: TT030 VGA picture quality

Mine is a bit more low tech. It’s a crappy old 15 inch VGA monitor with digital controls :) The controls remember their state per screen mode. I use them to adjust the position etc of the screen. The monitor doesn’t half make a noise when you turn it on though!

Re: STE vs. Falcon Blitter incompatibility

Ever tried hammering colour register 0 with it and checking the output on the Falcon? You can see where videl is stealing cycles from the blitter. I've been doing some comparison stuff lately on the Amiga/Ste/Falcon. The Falcon blitter is equivalent to the ST one at 12 mhz not 16. It looks like blit...

Re: movea.b movea.w why these exist?

adda doesn't set CPU flags.. you can do address arithmetic without changing the state.. eg you could do a beq twice in a routine.
That wouldn't work for normal arithmetic. :)

Re: GEMBENCH 6

Hmm, so according to the latest build (26), my TT is slightly slower than a STE at Blitting? . Blitter hardware performance in the OS is around 5.6 times faster than a stock 8 mhz 68000. According to GEMbench it's 8x faster whicih might be a corner case, The OS is treating planes one at a time duri...

Re: why use ASM anymore

You still need to understand assembly for reverse engineering. Very important to verify static analysis and dynamic analysis vulnerabilities in a binary.

Re: why use ASM anymore

Because it's a specialist skill and it's valuable to an employer. Basic programmers would be lost reverse engineering anything for example. Even mobile developers seem to lack low level skills these days.

All it takes is for an Amiga nutcase* to see this and we'll have endless videos of ST machines being trashed. It's an asshole thing to do to working vintage equipment.

Yeah. I was able to build it on my mac. There's a binary version in the archive for those that want to play with it. You just need to pull the repo with "git clone https://gitlab.com/AndreasK/AtariX"
