Re: The SECRET VIDEO MODE in an ST: 400 lines in COLOR (and with 72 Hz)!

Btw, more than for actual display, I thought it could be useful for extra overscan/scroll switches that otherwise put SHIFTER in an unstable mode. Doing hi/lo GLUE tricks without the Shifter picking up on them. Would've been nice if the byte trick was the other way around, but I agree it's worth lo...

Re: The SECRET VIDEO MODE in an ST: 400 lines in COLOR (and with 72 Hz)!

The only drawback is that you have to keep TOS from detecting that no monochrome monitor is connected and subsequently resetting the computer. For my test, I chose the somewhat brute-force method of redirecting the VBL/VSYNC interrupt which is where TOS does this check. That vector is $46E - just p...

Re: The SECRET VIDEO MODE in an ST: 400 lines in COLOR (and with 72 Hz)!

This is fantastic. I've spent a lot of hours trying to achieve something like this. How are you running GLUE in one mode (high) and Shifter in another (color)?

Re: Different SHIFTER versions

Great stuff Ijor, as always.

edit: For Closure specifically I've seen effects that are surely due to Shifter wakeup. With enough time I can use my LA to document which chips and wakeups where there are no issues, and maybe where they are (bugs only happen on machines I don't own myself, typically ;))

Re: Different SHIFTER versions

Thanks for the captures! The two different effects on the "big SYNC logo dist" with a power cycle in between are interesting. In the first video there's a bitplane error, and the cause is that my "stabilizer-free scanline" (which stabilize at the left border) has not clear the intended Shifter word ...

Re: Different SHIFTER versions

Closure fullscreens should work with the old top border* - but the scrolling-dude screen might not when I think about it. I understand you tested Closure with an IMP Shifter, right? That's why I suspect czietz failure is due to his specific motherboard not being fully compatible with an IMP Shifter...

Re: Need Old SHIFTER version C025914-38

I'm not sure - will need to open up the Mega* again but I think it's too new. I was just using -38 as shorthand for the non-IMP model there ... (I have already checked my two oldest machines, a red-led 1040STF and a 520STM, and none of the had a non-A -38) *) Hmm. I have two. Not sure I've ever look...

Sure. Add the network driver (BLITZ.PRG) to AUTO and then start UIP.TOS from the desktop (from Czietze's thread here on the forum) and you're good to go.

Re: Booting from SCSI2SD

I have a SCSI2SD bootable without issues. Did you install HDDRIVER to C from within HDRUTIL? The maximum partition size in the first place depends on the operating system and on the filesystem. TOS 1.00/1.02 support partitions of up to 256 MiB, TOS 1.04-3.06 of up to 512 MiB, TOS 4.0x of up to 1 GiB...

Re: My new, compact Atari -> VGA adapter.

Does the SCART cable use RGB or composite? If RGB you should indeed see it on the CRT TV as well.

Here are some images on how it looks, and the fix: https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/last/ ... /index.htm

Re: My new, compact Atari -> VGA adapter.

Are you comparing to another RGB output cable? The STE is famed for the ringing (dark shadows to the right of high contrast edges). That fix has to be done in the computer.

Well, yes, if it's the same error. Those adapters use hsync, not csync.

Re: Mega STe differences ?

Btw, the Mega STE incompatibility was caused by behaviour I haven't seen anyone describe before. Autovector interrupt timing (HBL) is different on Mega STE compared to STE ... 8 cycles difference I believe it was. And since Closure sync locks to HBL (thanks for that ;)) it was quite critical.

Re: Mega STe differences ?

Note that it doesn't necessarily means that your drive has a slower settle time. This might depend, among other things, on the utility you used to write the ST/MSA image and how the sectors are physically laid out on the track. Nicolas got one of the 10 physical discs uniquely written one by one by...
