Re: Compiling gcc 10.1.0 question

Btw. How's VBCC code generation nowadays compared to GCC?

Looking at its web pages, VBCC had a release last year, VASM this year, and VLINK two releases this year.

Re: Lattice C - Source level debugging?

Does lattice have any option for DRI / GST symbols generation? If those are included to binaries, debuggers can show the symbols (e.g. Hatari debugger loads them automatically when it's entered while program started from GEMDOS HD is still running).

Note that if you have performance issues, you can use Hatari profiler to investigate them: https://hatari.tuxfamily.org/doc/debugg ... #Profiling

Re: Problem with sound effects

Hatari has option to control the sound buffer sound: "--sound-buffer-size <x> Sound buffer size in ms (x=0/10-100, 0=default)". Smaller for lower latency, larger to prevent sound breaks if machine isn't beefy enough to have Hatari running always at full speed. Try whether "--sound-buffer-size 10" op...

mjvans: Even with the new fix... no luck here in Atari... music starts playing and I get "ERROR malloc failed". Did you start it from Falcon 640x480@256 VGA resolution and do you have at least 8MB of ST-RAM? (At least in Hatari, it starts with that setup when run on just plain TOS v4, nothing else.)

Re: New Atari ST game, VergeWorld: Icarus is coming!

Just a reminder, Hatari has a profiler: https://hatari.tuxfamily.org/doc/debugger.html

(It was used e.g. to optimize/rewrite Doom and DSP rcode for Falcon BadMood.)

Profiler is needed to get out last bits of performance...

Re: Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) for the Atari STE

Using a 68030 and disabling the cycle exact option clears up the sprites the same way as changing the CPU to a 68040 :) 040 data cache emulation was added in Hatari v2.1.0, do you have something older? However, there's another problem using Hatari with changing video registers in Timer B interrupts...

Re: Blitter for STfm worth it/needed?

As you're interested in EmuTOS, unlike with ST, it's easy to switch STE to use EPROM, as STE ROM sockets are large enough for EPROM and you just need to solder two jumpers to change board ROM use to EPROM mode (more pins).

Vincent Riviere posted a video about that few days ago.

Re: Droid: STE Edition - WIP thread

I can easily add more to the delay if it's still a problem. I've played through the game a bunch of times on both joystick and PowerPad and the crouch jump has seemed to work well but that's the trapping of being the only one testing it. Can you try the original Droid game and see how the crouch ju...

Re: Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) for the Atari STE

Its not just me struggling with the 030 timings then! :) I mentioned this to Doug a couple of wees ago. Seems like, for me at least, to be a bit of a nightmare situation trying to get close to any sort of near cycle exact precision going on. The I/D caches are not large enough to be able to really ...

Re: Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) for the Atari STE

Just tried it on Hatari anyway. Tip for anyone else...use a Falcon config but with an 68040, that appears to clear up the sprite corruption Would they go away just with disabling cache emulation (from command it would be with: "--cpu-exact off")? That would speed 030 emulation a lot (along with dis...

As I mentioned, for some reason error dialog unfortunately comes only for some unsuitable resolutions, not all. Photos will surely look bad with 16-colors, but you could use pictures that are already in 16-colors or lower, like line art. Screenshots from great Atari demos, or drawing competition res...

Tested again in Hatari. Now the game starts fine if: * Falcon is set to 640x480@256 mode before starting the program * There's at least 8MB of ST-RAM (e.g. 4MB of ST-RAM and 16MB of TT-RAM isn't enough) If I run program with TT (emulation), with EmuTOS, it gives an error dialog about wrong resolutio...

Re: Writing Atari ST programs onto floppies with PC

I have tried many disk VFAT/MSDOS formats from Ubuntu and none seems to work on the Atari but the USB floppy has no issues writing images or files to disks formatted on the Atari. Have you tried doing the formatting with "mformat" from the "mtools" package? There's e.g. option for generating Atari ...

Re: Jigsaw Puzzle

It doesn't work for me (in Hatari), either with TOS v4.04 (Falcon), TOS v3.06 (TT) or EmuTOS. After starting sound, it just outputs "ERROR malloc failed", regardless of how much ST-RAM & TT-RAM is specified. That seems to happen after loading "jigsaw8.pnt", when it does zero-sized allocation: ... GE...

Re: It's that time of the year again

Besides the VGA / 50Hz issue with Hatari, one needs really fast machine, otherwise Hatari DSP emulation runs too slowly for music to sound good (at all). If one doesn't care about the great music, one can run it with EmuTOS (which doesn't implement DSP XBios calls yet) and disable Hatari DSP to spee...

IMHO crouch jump could still be easier, I'm still failing with it maybe once every 3 jumps. Or maybe I've just lost my droid skills... Is somebody else having problems with the crouch jump still?

Re: Having issues running games lately + a couple questions

Fast forward shortcut key is a toggle. Statusbar issue could be with your Hatari launcher. It could be specifying a different config file. Direction options probably need to be configured somewhere lower level than in Hatari. Hatari uses for Joystick directions whatever SDL library provides for it.

Re: programs run at half speed in mono mode

Some questions: * Which version of Hatari this is? * Is it running on Windows, Mac or Linux? * Are you emulating mono monitor with ST/STE, or with TT or Falcon? * Is there MIDI clock option for Breakthru, and if yes, what you've set it to? I think Breakthru 2 is successor to Sequencer One (which can...
