Re: STE Blitter

- What's the handiest way to use the Blitter to fill polygons? Can it fill vertically / horizontally?
I made some tests a few years ago and have an example here:

Re: Sprites - blitter or CPU?

I did some blitter sprite tests for the falcon some years ago and you can do it very fast with the blitter if you use it in a "special way". Instead of the normal blit mask and after that the sprite you can use the mask data to set the start/middle/end mask for each line. So you reload the blitter w...

Re: efficient polygon drawing

I draw the lines with xor instead of or so end pixels that overlap will be black. That doesnt solve all problems and I guess polygons will have holes in the corners since the pixels arent drawn. Since I draw the lines one pixel in x each time I dont have to take special care if dy>dx. But end pixels...

Re: efficient polygon drawing

I made a quick XOR draw test on my PC and it almost works. I draw a polygon with lines and XOR each line with the previous one after that. That actually filled the triangle, but at the edges it draws a vertical line to the bottom of the screen. Since the edges of a triangle is just one pixel. I trie...

Re: efficient polygon drawing

Okay, so you make an XOR with the previous (or next?) drawn line on the screen. I can see that it might work for some occasions, but not all of them. If the drawn outline is filled in the pixel above and the current pixel is also filled, when the new pixel will be zero so it can't work. I guess I mi...

Re: efficient polygon drawing

you copy a full bitplane on itself in xor mode with blitter with destadr = sourceadr + line size (160 bytes for instance). what it does is to make the horizontal borders of the outline working as a toggle fill / do not fill But that would just invert the drawn outlines?. Not fill it. If I have a bl...

Re: efficient polygon drawing

How is the XOR filler done? Sounds interessting to try it out with the blitter? But I can't see how it can automatically draw a line? It seems like all that will happen is that black pixels turn white (0 to 1) and the opposite. Nothing else.

Re: How to install MiNT?

I tried it under Hatari (maybe I need a real Falcon for it to work?) I set it up to be 16Mhz 68030 with 14Mb RAM. Put VanillaMint on a HD floppy image and used an empty folder as HD. I started the install program on the floppy image and it installed it on the harddrive without any problems from what...

Re: How to install MiNT?

I don't care if it's easy or hard to install it. I understand that it might not be to easy. It's just that when I read the info next to the download files it says stuff like "all you need, no installation, just click and start and so on..." That isn't really the truth so a bit annoying. I had...

Re: How to install MiNT?

I couldn't find anything called "68000" but tried some others. I found one freemint version and when it booted it complained about missing stuff and just got a "system halted" message.
There are no installation files. Just AUTO and some other folders. Can't understand why it has to be so difficult?

How to install MiNT?

I wanted to test MiNT but can't get it to work. I visited https://github.com/freemint/freemint/releases and downloaded 1.18.0 I understood that I had to remove all programs in the autofolder except the one I wanted to use. (The 030 version in this case since I run it on a standard Falcon). It booted...

Re: why use ASM anymore

I have programmed many languages and on PC it's mostly C or C++, C# and so on... But on older computers like the Atari I prefer the 68000 assembler. It's not much different than program in C. C: A = A + 1 ASM ADD #1,D0 C: A = B[10] ASM MOVE 10(a0),d0 It's more or less the same syntax so it's not dif...

Re: why use ASM anymore

I think programming in 68000 assembly is more or less easier or the same difficulty as program in C. The commands are complex and it's so much easier to keep track of memory and time critical things than doing it in C. On a modern computer it's different ofcourse,

Re: STE horizontal hardware scroll

What I did in my Giana sisters STE conversion is that when I enter a new level I setup several screens with all the graphics so that the scroll routine only has to do that and not fill in any new data. I tried that at first, but it takes a lot of processor power to redraw the new 16 pixels that will...

I haven't checked with the versions between 3.7.2 - 3.9.0 so can't say were the errors first shows up. some things I found was that:...

Re: Enhance ST games for the Falcon ?

but what bout Atari 8bit games enhanced for the ST?
That would be very difficult since it's a different processor. You would need to rewrite the entire game so it would not be an enhanced version but instead a new game.

Re: What Gamepads or Controllers to Use ?

Megadrive/Genesis gamepad won't work on a ST cause the extra signals locks up the keyboard, believe me I've tried. Will work if plugged in the mouse port though... strange. I have used it in games. I don't think there are any extra signals from the joystick port that can lock up anything. Only the ...
