Re: Problems installing MIDI (PortMedia)
Hold that thought!!!!! While the pre-compiled MIDI version of Hatari didn't give me any MIDI ports, then brand new version (2.3.0) did! hatari_ok_midi.png And when running "Dump It" I was able to receive MIDI data from my synth as well :D dumpit_ok.png Thanks again, Distantminds, for suggesting Home...

Re: Problems installing MIDI (PortMedia)
Time... or lack of it is mostly the greatest hindrance. I was hoping a pre-compiled working Hatari with MIDI was available so I could just get it to work right away. And as posted earlier in this thread I found a pre-compiled Hatari version with MIDI support, but I can't get to download/install LibP...

Re: Problems installing MIDI (PortMedia)
I have no idea as I'm just an end-user. I found it complicated enough to find and install the necessary libraries. Obviously most of this stuff is catered for fellow-coders and not your average end user. Anyway, according to many other postings here, several Mac users have gotten Hatari to work with...

Re: Problems installing MIDI (PortMedia)
Yes, I've downloaded the latest version, but I read (on the Hatari download page) that in order to get MIDI support you have to install PortMedia/PortMIDI, so how should the latest Hatari version help? I didn't know about the MIDI bugs, but read in some other threads here that people have had succes...

Re: Problems installing MIDI (PortMedia)
OK, I think I found something. Apparently someone has made a MIDI compatible pre-compiled version of Hatari and if I'm not mistaken I don't need to install the PortMedia library on my Mac with this version of Hatari :?: But it crashes, and the error report tells me: Termination Reason: DYLD, [0x1] L...

Problems installing MIDI (PortMedia)
I'm trying to use Hatari (2.0.3. on the Mac platform -MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6) with some MIDI software but I'm obviously not getting the MIDI part to work. I understand I have to install the PortMedia library , but as a non-programmer I don't understand what to download and how to install this. Is...

Re: IDE-doubler (STe version) installation
Three years later.... Dusting off my STe I'm a little confused about the STD (standard configuration) and REV (primary/secondary IDE ports reversed) jumpers. I want to set it to STD, so should two jumpers be used, and are they to be set side by side or on top of each other? Or just one jumper?...

Tadiran battery opened (Mega STe clock battery)
Is anyone curious as to what's inside a Tadiran TL-5242/W (Mega STe lithium clock battery)? I'm going to replace mine using Troed's solution (AA sized lithium battery and a standard AA battery-holder which is a lot cheaper and easier to find). A comment on that page got me curious: that black Tadira...

Re: LS instead of F (74F244 in Mega STe) ?
No, Frank doesn't mean the VME bus. The IC in question separates several signals of the 16 MHz bus of the CPU from the 8 MHz system bus. Propagation delay is critical here. Seem you're right. Having inserted an IC-socket in place of U1 and inserted a new 74LS244 nothing happens (black screen, no re...

Re: LS instead of F (74F244 in Mega STe) ?
You mean the VME bus?
What purpose does it have to connect it to the MonSTer board?
4 signals are connected from U1 (74F244) and 1 signal from U6 (GAL22V10) as follows:
BRW
BUDS
BLDS
BAS
BDTK

Re: LS instead of F (74F244 in Mega STe) ?
Probably a good idea, but the LS244 will work for testing out the computer (until I get an "F" series 244)?
What does that IC (U1) actually do in the Mega STe?

Re: LS instead of F (74F244 in Mega STe) ?
True, and bad choice of wording on my part. I basically meant to get replies on what this chip does and if it might have anything to do with passing on the blitter related signals etc. And I've also experienced that things in computers seemingly work except in a specific situation. Unfortunately I h...

LS instead of F (74F244 in Mega STe) ?
There's a 74F244 (U1) inside my Mega STe which I'm busy desoldering in order to put in an IC socket. I have several "LS" versions (74LS244) of this chip, but no "F" replacements. Will the "LS" suffice as a replacement, despite the slower speed? https://i.postimg.cc/X7RV4RnQ/U1-F244-megaste08.png I'm...

Re: Mega STe/MonSTer blitter problem
All the wires appear to be connected properly, but I double-checked DTACK again just to be sure.
I also checked the pins on the MonSTer board itself, and their connections/circuit traces too appeared fine.
What else can I check?
Do the symptoms I listed earlier indicate any specific issues?

Re: Mega STe/MonSTer blitter problem
Correct. The blitter jumper is enabled. Based on my testing (with/without ALT-RAM etc.) in my previous posting, is there a location on the MSTE motherboard (or on the MonSTer) that would be a good starting place for checking for bad connections, or even a damaged IC? Since the blitter-jumper relies ...

Re: Mega STe/MonSTer blitter problem
The firmware you have should be OK, except that you can only use 6Mb or less alt-RAM. This is because the MSTE's VME-slot occupies the address range between 10Mb and 14Mb, leaving only the space between 4Mb and 10Mb for alt-RAM. The more recent alt-RAM lets you use the full 8Mb alt-RAM *if* your MS...

Re: Mega STe/MonSTer blitter problem
So the 68000 PLCC socket (on the Mega STe motherboard) has been replaced, but to no use as the problems are exactly the same as before (when the blitter is turned on I get solid black boxes instead of the desktop icons and messed up graphics elsewhere). With the blitter turned off everything appears...

MegaSTe CPU PCB wire modification?
I'm in the midst of replacing the PLCC socket for my MegaSTe CPU as I'm having trouble getting my MonSTer board to work flawlessly with it (and suspect bent pins/bad contact of the previous socket). I bought the computer second-hand, and I notice there's a wire soldered from the underneath of the mo...

Thanks for your work! This is highly appreciated.
Many of those titles are probably "lost", but hopefully some of them can somehow be made available as freeware to the public if the original authors can still be contacted.

Re: Mega STe/MonSTer blitter problem
Unfortunately I'm no longer able to edit my posting above, so here's some updated info... The first one being "RXW" which has all its connections intact (after a lot of ...

Re: Mega STe/MonSTer blitter problem
Thanks Jo Even. The MonSTer PCB looks fine upon normal eye-inspection, but I will double check the pins/traces surrounding that area and the multi-connector ("J-block) with a multimeter for continuity. That J-block connector has 4 wires which go to U1 (74F244) on the Mega STe motherboard and 1 wire ...

Re: Mega STe/MonSTer blitter problem
OK, thanks. So, having those Blitter problems I've now removed the MonSTer board, reinserted the CPU and the TOS 2.06 EPROMs and all appears to work well. At least in 8 MHz mode that is, where I can now switch on/off the blitter without any issues. I'm having problems with the floppy drive though, b...
