Re: Atari STe SD card reader on the Extended Joystick Port

Still no luck with the 4MB card, and the 512KB one wouldn't even let the system boot. This is the reader I ordered https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322502815052 I've ordered some 2MB Sandisk cards, hopefully one of them will work. ** In the last post I'd said I'd put 30MB of data on a 4MB card, obviously ...

Re: Atari STe SD card reader on the Extended Joystick Port

I had a 512MB card from an old phone. This is the smallest card I have. I formatted another card (Sandisk 4GB / FAT16) and filled it with about 30MB of software, this gets a bit further, it passes the boot stage (Bigdos, then sdextjoy) and goes to the desktop, but when I try to open the C: drive, no...

Re: Power LED

Looks very nice, but isn't it too light (the case)? Was it painted or retrobrighted? Yes, I did retrobright it. However, the photo makes it look lighter than it really is; it is in fact just perfect in real life. I do need to brighten up the LEDs a touch though, I went in a bit heavy with the curre...

Retrobrighting keyboards; unequal key brightness

I have a couple of keyboards, the one with the least yellowing damage whitened up really nicely, but I have another keyboard which was really yellowed. Some of the keys whitened up really nicely after a few hours, but the majority are still slightly yellowed - enough to be noticable against the whit...

Re: The Obligatory 'Introduce Yourself Thread'...

I hadn't seen this thread before, so I'll repost here what I put into the new visitor thread... A little introduction from me... I used the Atari extensively throughout the '90s for music. One of the record labels I was signed to in 1992 converted all my Amiga tracker mods to Cubase (Atari ST) and u...

Re: Power LED

You are right. I filed the flange off and they fit perfectly. I used white LEDs rather than the standard green, I did try blue, but against the off-grey they looked weird. Most white or blue LEDs are superbright so if you decide to do this you'll need to change the 200Ω current limiting resistor if ...

Re: Atari STe SD card reader on the Extended Joystick Port

What is the best way to go about this... Format the full size of the card? Format a 32MB partition on a larger SD card? Or source a micro SD of 32MB (if they exist)?

Best TOS for music?

I use Cubase 2.0, as well as a few synth editors and various utilities in hi-res mono. I was wondering what the best version of TOS is for music software. I have a STFM with TOS 1.02 installed and a STE with TOS 1.62 installed. Is it worth upgrading my STE from 1.62 to 2.06? Is this a good option fo...

I have compiled a list of synth editors. Most links are direct to the files, just right click and download, others are FTP folders, so hover your mouse first. Re: Atari STe SD card reader on the Extended Joystick Port

This is brilliant! I've ordered the required parts. Does anyone know if it is possible to have a larger card and divide it up into many 32MB partitions and have the Atari see the partitions as individual drives?

Hardware 4MB / 1MB switch?

Hi, I have seen a video showing an STE with a 4MB / 1MB switch. Looks like a standard SPDT switch, which he said is wired to pin 18 of the SIMMs, he initially said he grounded pin 18 with the switch, then mentions "a bunch of resistors", and the MMU. Anyone have a more detailed guide on how to do th...

Re: New visitor? Your first three posts need to be approved

A little introduction from me... I used the Atari extensively throughout the '90s for music. One of the record labels I was signed to in 1992 converted all my Amiga tracker mods to Cubase and used Akai samplers, and showed me the way of the world of studio recording. I was hooked from then on. Bough...

Re: Power LED

They are 3 mm LEDs, with a thin "flange", like Kingbright L-7104. I have hundreds of 3mm LEDs of various colours, designs & manufacturers, (I build modular synthesizers & various music gear, so I buy bulk of stuff like LEDs)... The Atari ones are definitely not standard 3mm Kingbright. I would pref...

Power LED

My power light is dead and I'm experiencing the beeping keyboard - I presume the beeping keyboard is related to the LED issue, as I've stripped down and cleaned the keybed fully. I went to replace the LED, but it is not the usual 3mm standard, it is also not as tall. Anyone know where I can buy LEDs...
