Re: doom runs on the FPGA
But it's already done, have a look at https://github.com/bbond007/MiSTer_PrBoom-Plus.git That is what I referred to as Linux Doom as it is running on the Arm Linux core on the SoC. That and I am not a fan of PrBoom, it isn't accurate like chocolate or crispy doom nor does it have the networking of ...

Re: doom runs on the FPGA
Your headline is a bit misleading. Only the first level E1M1 has been recreated in a predefined run. There is no way of controlling the "game" at this point. That is disappointing, was hoping for a good Doom implementation on the MiSTer, i486 is too slow and SNES and GBA doom is not that good. I gu...

Re: Show us your MiSTer hardware setup
i dont have a build log sorry..... i use a remote control power socket to switch the de10 nano on and off, so no need for a physical switch. the jst connectors you can purchase from quite a few places, but i got mine from an old stock pile of cables ive aquired over the years from scrapping tvs etc...

Re: Joystick testing thread
Am I alone in the thought that this thread is pretty long and hard to sort through. Maybe a Testing results and a testing discussion should be separated. People may just want to see what joysticks support the lowest latency Maybe a tier system where you have top tier for 1ms polling, tier 2 for 2-4 ...

Theoretical could a 2.4 GHZ wireless controller be able to do 1ms polling?
Theoretical could a 2.4 GHZ wireless controller be able to do 1ms polling? Most wireless controllers don't come close, I know the Daemonbite / Mr. Spinner projects are pushing the 1ms polling support but could something similar be done with wireless controllers. By something I mean a homebrew soluti...

Re: Show us your MiSTer hardware setup
Here's mine. I love this thing. It's my favorite "tinker" device out of everything I have ever had. I like your setup but it seems a bit dangerous to have a bare Arcade CRT without any housing. If it discharges on you or any guest by accident it could be fatal. I would recommend making some sort of...

Re: Upcoming core - Game of Life
I was suspicious of the OTHER category, my concerns of it not being useful are now proven unfounded. I find it interesting that the other category is getting fleshed out. I remember playing the game of Life on a RockBox firmware modified Sansa Clip Zip. That screen was hardly 1080 so this will be in...

Re: Show us your MiSTer hardware setup
Newish Member. - First Post! Here is my hardware. It's on a multi point articulating camera stand, meant for a tripod, but it balances really well without one. I designed a very simple Mister > VESA monitor mount to attach it on the back of the 10.1 inch monitor. The main board was given to me as a...

Re: Joystick testing thread
But that does not change the fact unfortunately that some encoder boards and controllers are really lousy introducing delays way higher than what a human would introduce (mostly cheap stuff thrown at the buyers for a few bucks) and that some tvs even in game mode add a lot of delay which is in the ...

Re: Custom Video Modes Test Thread
Just a word of caution NEVER EVER, use integer scaling for the 2600 over HDMI the resolution can change at any time and the vertical resolution is so variable between games and even during gameplay that no one optimal setting can be reached. It is a mess so don't bother, non integer scaling nearest ...

Re: The history of Spider-Man the arcade game arcade documentary
Interesting. I remember playing this game in the arcades and it was pretty fun. I think they could have done this on the Genesis, much like Spiderman Maximum Carnage. The Sega CD had scaling and rotation support also I wonder why it was never tried for the Sega CD?

Re: Joystick testing thread
I'm using mini arcade cabinet PiCade. And what i want to tell - those big buttons with long travel distance and big joystick with also long travel between side to side - they have waaay longer lag than 1ms. It's physically impossible to operate faster than 1ms. I think the quickest reaction you can...

Re: Joystick testing thread
I just wanted to know the limits and how far they can be pushed. Yes I do know how crazy it may sound but now it is crystal clear 1ms is the limit, and you likely won't have much gains beyond that and there is no trick you can do to get closer to 0 delay with a lower but well timed polling rate. Ma...

Re: Joystick testing thread
Just a question theoretically can USB polling be overclocked further than 1000Hz? Is this even possible? Would this require a custom driver or firmware would this saturate the USB's bandwith, would this break compatibility with practically every joystick / controller? From what I know USB 2.0 high ...

Re: What arcade boards would you most want to see in MiSTer?
Dragons Lair and Space Ace! The problem with Dragons Lair and Space Ace is that they were heavily dependent on Laser Disc many of which are starting to have disk rot. Laser Disks were also an analog video format so the question would be how do you encode that to even make a proper rom? There was a ...

Re: Custom Video Modes Test Thread
That seems counter intuitive. If you use a non-native resolution, you're not really getting integer scaling anymore, right? For example, a 240p system will scale 3x into 720p with basically no border or 4x into 1080p with a noticeable border. But if you're using a 1080p display, that 720p image has...

Re: What arcade boards would you most want to see in MiSTer?

What arcade boards would you most want to see in MiSTer? Tell your top three, this is just for gauging community interest.
