Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

Almost forgot - yes, all of those PLATFORM definitions are a hangover from the original AVR core, the only place I see it actually being used now is in mega-reg.v, so have deleted all of the others...

Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

Btw, Arduboy3D doesn't work anymore. The last release where this game works is 0313. Yes, some of the changes in MorgothCreator's core that made a lot more games start working seem to have also made a few other games stop working! He has been developing a debug module to try and investigate closer....

Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

That would be this little piece of code in the RAM implementation. I was trying to have the memory-mapped AVR registers automatically cleared on every reset, to squash some bugs. But should be fine to just edit those lines out and cut back down on the compilation time (that part of RAM doesn't actua...

Re: Joystick testing thread

Feel like I must be missing something obvious?!?! You need to press the button corresponding to this paddle to enable it. Aha! There you go - I only wanted to test the paddle, so hadn't even bothered connecting a button... (I did see the 'pdlena' variable in the mr.Spinner sketch, an...

Re: Joystick testing thread

So... I've got a potentiometer connected to an Arduino Micro, used the mr.Spinner sketch, I can see the messages getting through in the serial console: EV_ABS, Axis=8, and I can watch the Offset go up and down when I turn the pot... but when I go into cores supporting paddles and switch input to pad...

Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

Lots of updates to the Arduboy core recently - MorgothCreator has done a lot of re-factoring of his AVR core, and these changes have meant a lot more playable games added to the collection that previously didn't work! I've also recently added in paddle support ('cause who doesn't love paddles?! :lol...

Well, the topic should probably be renamed to "Special/Interesting controllers for MiSTer that are equal to or greater than the JogCon"! If you want a really fancy spinner then you could pick up one of these on eBay: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griffin_PowerMate or you could also try re-purp...

Re: Special/Interesting controllers for MiSTer

I have one of these neGcon controllers: neGcon.jpg what's interesting about this one is - the whole thing twists in the middle , giving a proportional analog output! The two red buttons also give analog values... the Arduboy sitting next to it can also be used as a USB controller (has the same ATmeg...

Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

Correct, but most games never use the OLED commands (outside of the startup initialisation command sequence to make the screen work, which is not necessary in our case), the few commands already implemented are the rare exceptions. However, it would be fantastic to have all of the OLED commands prop...

Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

I've added HEX loading. Conversion to BIN is not required any more. Thanks! Have made a new release. :D (HEX files won't be padded out to 32K though, which may possibly lead to issues - if you load a large HEX, and then a small one, some of the older larger file would still remain?) I've seen a lot...

Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

It is true that the games are 'free', but they also have many different licenses, all with their own terms around distribution... there are already a couple of repos that have popped up to make downloading the games easier: https://github.com/RetroDriven/MiSTerArduboy https://github.com/treyturner/M...

Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

I was thinking about screen rotation, but as far as i know Arduboy uses only horizontal mode - otherwise it's hard to hold it in hands and play. 1943 for Arduboy is horizontal shooter unlike on arcade/console. There was a 'special edition' Arduboy with the screen oriented vertically, but it was loc...

Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

Fair enough

Speaking of those available resources - I was thinking that using the rotate screen Arcade functionality might be a handy addition? There are some games that would benefit from being able to rotate the view - 1943 and the '3in1' games are a good example!

Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

I think, the next step is to support HEX files loading directly. You can add either another atmega core for conversion on the fly, or other cores like Z80, ZPU, etc for this task. Easiest way to support HEX would be to have the HPS do the conversion from HEX to BIN on-the-fly and send the data over...

...you're welcome :D OK, repo is up! https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Arduboy_MiSTer ...the 'sys' folder probably needs an update - I'm not certain where to find the latest version? (the one there now I had just borrowed from the PET2001 repo back at the beginning of this thread as was suggested)

Good news - have found a brilliant collaborator, Iulian Gheorghiu - author of XMEGA-CORE: https://opencores.org/projects/attiny_atmega_xmega_core ...and we are slowly, surely, experimentally working our way towards eventually having full compatibility with the pre-compiled Arduboy .HEX files! Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

I sort of cover this in the README.md on the GitHub releases folder: The .HEX files as produced by the Arduino IDE have been modified for use with the core, an empty block of 512 bytes is added to the start and used for non-volatile EEPROM storage, and an end-of-file marker (0x1A) is added to the en...

Re: Help with porting Arduboy core?

You should append the date to your core and leave the previous ones in the release folder. Lesson learned: if a core crashes on you but no one is complaining you should double check that the download is good. Will try and remember to date the releases from now on - thanks again for helping out! [sm...
