Re: MiSTer NES Core

Great thank you. Are there other games which need this too? Might as well fix them all while I’m at it I've written a python script to set all headers correctly using NewRisingSun's new database. It will take care of any NES 2.0 issues you have. You can find it here if you are interested: https://g...

The Wiki could always use some fresh copy, but make sure you can verify that you understand the topics fully if you want to make changes. If you are interested in doing so I would be happy to give you info or proofread any technical details you want to elaborate on. I think the getting started guide...

Pretty cool to see things like this. Getting this onto a platform with relatively wide adoption like MiSTer makes attracting a group software developers for it more of a reality.

Re: Original analog video without I/O board? Possible!

...for the rest, the (anecdotal) comments telling people "it's ok to feed 1080p to a 15Khz monitor" and the whole discussion about risks of feeding incorrect signals on monitors without protection, I believe belongs to a different place (probably not even in the MiSTer forum) , as eventually it onl...

Re: NES core on MiST

(just for the record: it's not PhantombrainM's code, but a guy called Juha Turunen wrote it, then I got it from Victor Trucco's multicore and finally he got it from here). I've compared Warlords on MiST with Stella, it looks the same for me. So probably not a TIA issue on MiSTer. Or I don't know, I...

Re: NES core on MiST

Pitfall audio was recently fixed by replacing the audio module. Warlords looks like ok to me (if that's the 4 player breakout like game). There are some games which doesn't produce equal frame lengths (I even checked in Stella, and confirmed). Others was fixed by a small RIOT change. I'm not aware ...

Re: NES core on MiST

Bot the MiST and MiSTer version of the A2600 core have that TIA. Or did you find it bad? Btw, as schematics are available for both the TIA and the Maria chip, anything else other than reproducing those drawings would suffer from compatibility issues, I think. The version currently in use has severa...

Re: NES core on MiST

No problem, thanks for your existing work. But what's the purpose of rewriting the A2600? It's cycle perfect already (not that university project Verilog TIA which is in your repo, that's surely crap, but Retromaster's VHDL version). I was unaware there was another open version available for use. W...

Re: NES core on MiST

Maybe using a faster CE rate when the new spirtes are scanned can be a solution. Similar approach is used in the SMS core. I understand it's not a priority for you, and you did a lot of work and debugging to improve the core, so thank you for that. I don't really have plans to change it anytime soo...

Re: NES core on MiST

BRAM could easily be used rather than a large register, if that's your concern. The clearing is done more or less accurately, except on reset. Reset should technically not clear it, but the original ram would decay, so I just wipe it. Undefined state is acceptable and not inaccurate for that though...

Re: NES core on MiST

Thanks I'll check it. My problem was not the compile times, but the PPU size is 1500 vs 6000 logic cells. As the OAM is a DRAM originally, it would be good to handle it like that. In the current (maybe not completely cycle-exact) state, it's possible to infer it into BRAM. With reading-writing many...

Re: NES core on MiST

No save, FDS and things which needs the board specific parts implemented are done (I'm not a big NES fan, and it was mostly a copy-paste port). However I've noticed some parts are really coded in a way that assumes infinite FPGA resources, and I don't really like it. The PPU is bigger than the one ...

Re: How to use the menu with SNAC controllers and other USER_IO controller solutions

The purpose of SNAC is to provide a native controller port to the core with nothing intermediate. ie just wires, for maximum compatibility with unusual peripherals. What you want would require interpreting every protocol as well. SNAC's primary function is for things that cannot be represented by US...

there seems to be a bit of an upset going on..... from the coco 3 mister website Admin December 27, 2019 at 7:26 PM You are misinformed. Alexy claims the project is open source but then plasters his (C) on the once-MIST API code and then attempts to “fix” cores to computers he knows nothing about. ...

Re: Nintendo 64 and other later Gen Cores

The best you will likely see on the current iteration of MiSTer hardware is GBA and *maybe* PS1, but even those are quite far from reality, despite whatever tweets and optimism you may have seen. And 6 months later, a GBA core gets release. The future is NOW!!! Indeed. 5th gen things fall in the re...

Re: MiSTer updater script

Well, I don't want to sound harsh, and I have maximum respect of the developers working on MiSTer, but I feel somewhat this requirement of "your core cannot be auto-updated unless you transfer your repo to MiSTer-devel" is a kind of blackmailing. Just think about a developer, who creates cores targ...

Do you guys know if its possible to add Mr-X repository so his Arcade cores are updated too? He has some exclusive cores he has made, like Solomons Key, etc... Where should it be added? Which format should I use? Pulling cores from outside the official repository is a bad practice. Only the things ...

I prefer the work stay as a passion project. Bounty systems lead to all the points above and situations where you end up with irresponsible devs just adding bloat features for one guy with a couple of hundred bucks to throw at it.

Re: ao486 Performance Technical Discussion

We really didn't use the SX versions in the U.S. We basically went from the 38, briefly to the 486, and straight to the Pentium (math bug and all). There were a slew programs that required the FPU to run by the time the 486 was popular. I am certainly not complaining. I was pointing out that the la...

I would say it's a safe dichotomy (haha) to assume that at least some of the glorious MiSTer devs would be interested on getting their amazing work on Analogue hardware. I would say that is not safe assumption at all. I think many of the mister devs find them just to be capitalizing on open source ...
