If the code is of interest to anyone (and assuming the MCU isn't code protected to prevent reading) I have the tools to desolder the chip from the board and a programmer that can read it.
If you pm me your address I'll pop it in the post box. :)

Re: Identify This Board?

I have one too except it doesn't have any Atari PCB markings. I found it stuffed inside a rather butchered 520STF with 1mbRAM. I have no idea what it is for.

I don't have the equipment/knowledge to read from this rom but I'll happily post it free for keeps to anyone who does.

They seem to be a bit more unique than an off the shelf 3mm LED. They look like a much older desgin.

Re: CT60 memory test strangeness

I'm getting very close to returning my CT60e to Willy. I doubt it's something that can be fixed in the lab, otherwise he would have just fixed the issue when he designed the ct60e. It's more likely that the problem is buried in abe/sdr or tos4.04 and I'm not sure if anyone has the sources for eithe...

Re: Falcon Troubles

Hello, I am back to this again. The continuity of the FD ribbon cable is ok on the 'top' row. But on the bottom most connected. Is that normal? Yep. Those are all earths. It can't hurt to carefully rework those pins on the sdma. Use lots of flux :) It's a good idea to check those pins for activity ...

Hi all,

Does anyone have a spare Videl IC they'd be willing to sell?

Kind regards,
Stuart

Re: Falcon Troubles

But I will do a pin by pin continuity test just to make sure. You may be better off using your scope for this. You can get to most signals from AJAX... Probe with the FDD being accessed. Don't worry about Earth. I normally just clip the earth to the back of the probe lead so it doesn't drop on to t...

Re: Falcon Troubles

Just a thought... There isn't a crossover in the FDD cable is there? Some Falcon owners would cut and cross DS so they can use PC drives without having to find and change the 0Ohm resistor for ID0-1 each time they replaced the drive. I'm sure you would have noticed it, but just incase.

Re: Falcon Troubles

Hi KLund1, Have you checked that the solder jumper on U47 is correctly set? You can also test to see if your AJAX chip is working by using your diag cartridge and running the timing (T) tests. Do you have the service manual? You can get it from dev-docs. The OCR version is best because it's searchab...

Quick Falcon repair question

Hi there :) So now I have a bit of time I'm looking at a non-working Falcon I have here. Very occasionally it shows some signs of life, say every 20 power cycles. When it's showing signs of life, the display goes into standby but the cpu clock switches to 16mhz and data and address lines are all tog...

Re: Atari 1040 STE reset itself when I touch the corner of the keyboard

ST/Falcon keyboards are great. They are also single sided, so there are tonnes of jumper wires on the underside. There is normally a very heavy adhesive PVC layer. If it's been removed, and the RF shield is still there, then yah it'll short and latch up. Electrical tape can fix it. :)

Re: Falcon Troubles

Oh I thought you had your diag cart already. It is always a great idea to change out the caps, but right now you have Falcon that doesn't start. I would seriously recommend shelving it until your cart arrives. There is no guarantee that the cart will even make a difference but a very methodical appr...

Re: Falcon Troubles

You only need pin 2, 3 and gnd. Pin 2 and 3 should be crossed, so pin 2 is pin 3 on the other end and vice versa. If you have 2 working computers with serial ports you can test it by connecting them together and opening a terminal emulator on each one. Keystrokes you input on one computer should dis...

Re: Falcon Troubles

I kind of like Brad. He's okay. Emailing him is like going back to the 1990's which I also enjoy (sorry that's OT as well) He's old, very quirky, doesn't like MasterCard or Paypal but once you pay him he's actually very good. He also sends packages in a recycled Lynx box with Atari factory tape seal...

Why are you ordering from the UK? You are less than an hour's drive from BeST Electronics!

Re: Falcon Troubles

What is 8N1? The only null-modem cable I have is a F-DB25 to F-DB9. I have no gender changer. I have a F-DB9 to M-DB25 serial I can use a gender changer. But this setup will only connect the modem ports. It's often easier (and cheaper) just to make your own. You only need tx, rx and gnd. The contro...

For some reason the server is not letting me upload photos right now, but I found another thread that goes into a bit more detail and also has the rom files.

Re: Falcon Troubles

The Falcon diag needs 512k roms. If you have the oem Atari cartridge (C070208) then you'll need to make some minor modifications such as move vpp and add a little bit of logic to drive ce. When I find my cartridge I'll send you some close up photos. I'll have a hunt around for those rom bins as well.

Re: Falcon Troubles

With all due respect, it helps a lot if you don't go reaching for those Lattice chips just yet. If you do, label them with a fine tipped paint pen. U62, U63, U67, U68. It's easy to garble them up in the wrong positions and then you're busy chasing two possible faults and you'll go crazy. :D

Re: Falcon Troubles

Cool! So firstly, you can plug your probe into the left most BNC on the scope and clip the other end of the probe to pin 23 on the Falcon's 50 pin expansion connector (just count 12 pins from the left on the bottom row) this is the CPU clock from combel. If you have an earth clip on your probe you c...
