Re: VGA output questions and problems

I'd have to check that, but probably not. Is that a requirement?

Re: VGA output questions and problems

I'm still having difficulties showing a stable screen display on the PVM. Does the clock have to be VERY accurate? Currently running an overall clock of 4.8 MHz, with the following: // declarations for TV-simulator sync parameters // horizontal constants parameter H_DISPLAY = 256; // horizontal disp...

MiSTer CRT video specification

Would it be possible for someone to describe to me what the specification is that allows MiSTer to show on a 15 KHz display? There is plenty of information regarding FPGA of VGA monitors in FPGA, but I'm having difficulty translating that across to a CRT, and I know that MiSTer is clearly working pe...

Re: Arcade Hardware in FPGA

I think I'll persevere with the book Designing Video Game Hardware in Verilog. It eventually goes into tilemap and sprite rendering techniques. Just need to keep plugging away with understanding the code.

Re: Designing Video Game Hardware in Verilog (book)

I've found that the Github for the book actually does have a good amount of FPGA examples of the book for the ICE FPGA, so that will be useful. I agreed with you Alexei, but I think authors need to remember that I'm very dumb! Often the author of the book will use a very non-simple bit construct whi...

Re: Designing Video Game Hardware in Verilog (book)

It is a little frustrating that quite a bit of the book's code is not so synthesizable, and often does a few strange things meaning very difficult to translate onto an actual FPGA. The assembler language in the CPU examples I'm not sure would be possible either on an actual FPGA.

Re: Arcade Hardware in FPGA

Darfpga - thanks - I'll take a look.

Slingshot - do you have any examples of tilemap rendering? I'll try and search.

Arcade Hardware in FPGA

I'm beginning to get comfortable with a simple CPU/computer in FPGA, but would like to understand how sprite rendering engines work. What would be a useful beginner arcade core be for understanding the basics? I've looked through and it's not totally obvious, although the BW Raster from Atari is pro...

MiST - UART on Midi Model

Are there any UART pins available for the MiST model that has MIDI included on the PCB. I fear that it is just replaced by the MIDI pins, but has some additional logic attached and so is not possible to just select certain MIDI pins either.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Acorn Electron core

Let me know if you need the few lines of code that load from tape through the ADC. It certainly wasn't rocket science.

I seem to have a very bad lag on the sound with ScummVM. Is there any way to changes settings to get rid of this lag?

Thanks.

Re: Acorn Electron core

I have added tape loading from external tape through the ADC pins as I did for the Oric. The exact same code worked here too. Again all credit goes to Oldgit the original porter of the core. I do find loading UEF files useful, as there are plenty of things like cover tapes that exist in the TOSEC th...

Re: MiSTer (FPGA): Oric1 / Atmos Core

Oldgit - perfect - long term the internal file parsing has to be the way forward.
Sorgelig - i think it was the line: assign ‘Z to the ADC bus, maybe waking it up.

Ron - this is for MiSTer. I think to be able to do it in MiST through UART you will need to solder a circuit for input.

Re: MiSTer (FPGA): Oric1 / Atmos Core

I'm happy to announce I managed to implement tape loading through the ADC, with ground pins and pin 1 connected to a mono tape cable. It seems to be as sensitive as the original Oric for tape loading, maybe a little be better. Have fun! Next to implement the easy tape loading (for the user, not the ...

Re: MiSTer (FPGA): Oric1 / Atmos Core

All useful to know which works with actual tape input, since I can look at more examples of code that is working. Currently, I'm just looking at the Spectrum for my example, so only one to go by.

Thanks!

Re: MiSTer (FPGA): Oric1 / Atmos Core

Thanks Sorgelig. Yes, well the logic seems sound. But nothing happening right now.

There are reports that other cores on Mistica or maybe MiST was able to load from external means. If that is true does anyone know which core was used and what the input pin was??

thanks.

Re: MiSTer (FPGA): Oric1 / Atmos Core

Trying to connect up an external tape to the ADC and the Oric core. The emu module declares the A to D converter link this: module emu ( //ADC inout [3:0] ADC_BUS, There is 'oricatmos.vhd' that has the following entity: entity ORIC is port ( -- K7 connector K7_TAPEIN : in std_logic; K7_TAPEOUT : out...
