Re: Defender/Robotron/Joust on MiST?
Did you get anywhere with these ports from Mister? I'd dearly love to play these arcade games, some of my favourites, on the MIST. They're also landscape mode games so will look good on a TV. No unfortunately I didn't have enough time. Hopefully someone else will have the time and motivation to do ...

Re: Using MiST to drive an Arcade Vector Monitor
I'd love to see black and white vector gaming and keep the audio. There is already a Vectrex core for MiST, that outputs to a regular raster display. http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=115&t=33150 However, this might be adapted to output Real Vector Graphics to a Vector Monitor. If connecti...

Re: Using MiST to drive an Arcade Vector Monitor
Well it looks like you should be able to output X/Y over the VGA. Yes, for a monochrome Arcade game like Asteroids, Battle Zone etc. Because if you only need on channel for intensity, and you can use the other 2 color channels on the VGA connector for X/Y. However, for a color vector game, like Tem...

Re: Using MiST to drive an Arcade Vector Monitor
I guess those are all making use of nonvector displays though What I want to do is the opposite. Because I have built one of these rare vector monitors (this one is actually a clone of the Amplifone display that was used in Atari games like Tempest, Star Wars, Major Havoc etc.). Now I want to feed ...

Re: Using MiST to drive an Arcade Vector Monitor
I have no idea what input is required, but the VGA output also analogue, and you only have to create a (3x)6-bit digital representation of the required signal. Possibly some kind of level-shift also needed. Yes the RGB I can take from the VGA connector. However, for a vector display to work, I need...

Using MiST to drive an Arcade Vector Monitor
I have recently built an arcade vector monitor out of an old TV set. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdUSU4RqZe0 Currently there are 2 options for generating an analog vector signal for it, either by having a real Vector Arcade PCB which are hard to find in working condition there days, or to use th...

Re: Genesis / Megadrive core ported to MiST
This might be interesting. The 'Eurogamer' review of the Analogue Mega SG (FPGA Megadrive). https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2019-analogue-mega-sg-review We have only 115/122 of the VDP FIFO test passing :) But on MiST, with ROM-RAM-VIDEO RAM shared in one SDRAM chip, it's already ...

Re: Defender/Robotron/Joust on MiST?
Please forgive me for aksing perhaps really basic questions on the MiST SDRAM, but; I want to access 32 KByte of data mapped as below with just 13-bits, how can I achive this? -- should reflect content of defender_prog.bin -- -- 4k 0000-0FFF cpu_space D000-DFFF defend.1 + defend.4 -- 4k 1000-1FFF E0...

Re: Defender/Robotron/Joust on MiST?
Thank's for the tip. The core will fit in the FPGA provided that the Program ROM, and the Sound ROM is loaded into SDRAM. The next problem porting this core is related to that MiST SDRAM address bus has 13-bits, however, the Mister core has 16-bits, and the original core (from Dar) has a 15-bit wide...

Defender/Robotron/Joust on MiST?
Hello, Has anyone tried to port the Defender Arcade core to MiST? If this is ported, it should be easy to support Robotron, and Joust also. https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Arcade-Defender_MiSTer I am trying, but I cannot figure out what the different Clock rates shall be? (I cannot check the pll wiz...

Re: Genesis / Megadrive core ported to MiST
I have not been able to play Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on fpgagen, including on the latest version (I tried it yesterday)
Has anyone else tried this game?
Can it be that the cartridge contains some special chip that is required in order to run the game?

Re: Genesis / Megadrive core ported to MiST
I think I have explained it in other post. Titan Overdrive 2 Demo tries to push too much the maximum write speed I don’t know it this is related to the problem above, but now when you have a cycle accurate CPU – shouldn’t the clock speed be reduced to 7.67 MHz instead of 54 MHz? Maybe that will slo...

Re: Genesis / Megadrive core ported to MiST
Well...that's not true anymore (in my dev git) :) Turned out that my TV can display the interlaced picture flicker-free (as it must have a de-interlacer for broadcast channels). Upd.: it's even not bad on VGA. That sounds great, I can't wait to test it on a CRT TV  I just need to dig out my...

Support for interlace graphics mode (320x448i) is still a major missing function of this core, so this is a major task to undertake (if you wantNemmerle wrote:It seems I always reach the cool projects when things are advanced and I have nothing more to add.

Re: Genesis / Megadrive core ported to MiST
but others (i.e. Worms, on the bottom of the screen) did not improve at all, perhaps it's another (not sprite-related) issue, or a 'metastabilty problem' Yeah, I don't know what's causing the Worms issue - but it's not the sprite channel running out of bandwidth, that's something else entirely. Gre...

Re: Genesis/Megardrive Master System Compatibility Mode
There is separate SMS core, but game compatibility is so-so. Yes I have played around a bit with the SMS core, and it's not perfect. That's the reason I want to be able to play sms roms using the Genesis core instead. Obviously not all games will work, but my experience using a powerbase mini with ...

Genesis/Megardrive Master System Compatibility Mode
Does anyone know how to put the Genesis/Megradrive in Master System Compatibility mode? The power base converter made that possible for the original hardware by connecting some pins to GND, or VCC. However, I guess the core itself has to do something to react on this configuration also, e.g. to load...

Re: Genesis / Megadrive core ported to MiST
The MiSTer rom loader and OSD shall be possible to port back to MiST, thus much FPGA space will be saved. Regarding sprite flickering we need to find a way to imporove the SDRAM controller, as the MiST FPGA does not have enough block ram to use for video memory.

Re: Genesis / Megadrive core ported to MiST
Yes the stability issue from build-to-build has been a problem for a while, but that now that you have got rid of the zpu and firmware at least some improvement must have been made. Also with a larger fpga routing should have a higher chance to succeed, but as I have learned setting up proper constr...

Re: Genesis / Megadrive core ported to MiST
A topic related to both Genesis and MiSTer is that: If there are enough gpio pins? SRAM could be put on one of the daughter boards in addition to SDRAM. If fpgagen were to use SRAM for graphics memory, the bandwidth problem which causes sprite flickering would most likely be gone. Since most 16-bit ...

Re: Genesis / Megadrive core ported to MiST
Yes the osd, rom loading etc. is not utilizing the MiST firmware in full. This port was based on the pc engine core for MiST, which uses a completely different method for loading roms (zpu + firmware on the fpga). This approach occupies a lot of the fpga, so the fpga usage can be decreased if using ...

Re: Genesis / Megadrive core ported to MiST
Hello Sorgelig,
You should probably use the master branch, as it will be most stable (no experimets before tested)
I have merged in the NewSD branch, which only affects the MiST target.
