Re: Recording audio

Yes, mono is fine. With the video connector, do you mean that what goes out of the output labelled "Television" on the STE, I mean the connector where you connect your STE to your monitor. Your cable should have one or two RCA leads that you currently connect to your monitor sound input, connect th...

Re: Does an Atari STE need maintenance?

Thanks! Yeah, it was probably one of the Amigas they were talking about, indeed. It's good to hear I am not running that risk! I might look into replacing the power supply unit. I found a "plug and play replacement" for €59, does that sound right or should there be cheaper alternatives? I did worry ...

Re: Recording audio

Thanks for the quick replies. :) If mono is OK then just pick up the sound from pin 1 on the video connector. This signal has lower output than the stereo output. Yes, mono is fine. With the video connector, do you mean that what goes out of the output labelled "Television" on the STE, and turns int...

Recording audio

To those who record their tunes of original hardware: how do you get the audio? I used to do line in from the right audio channel into my MP3 player, which worked well, but I think it wasn't in as great quality as it could be (because the device isn't designed for line in recording, it's just an ext...

Haha, that's clever! Very fun. If I understood it right you only made the video, and not the modules? Still quite cool. :)

Does an Atari STE need maintenance?

Hey guys. Our Atari STE has never had any issues, but some time ago I heard a podcast where a certain type of computer was mentioned (I can't recall which) in which there was one component that would almost always break down after 30 years. It was fairly easily fixable, but if it wasn't fixed the ma...

Re: Question(s) about MaxYMiser

When I try to load an SND that's on a different diskette than MaxYMiser it appears to load but I don't get back to MaxYMiser but stay stuck at a black screen instead. This hasn't been solved, by the way. :P I've composed on emulator since, and now that I'm doing a tune on the Atari again I simply s...

Re: My compositions made in MaxYMiser!

I think it's a great exercise to not use the DMA channels, it forces to focus on what's important in the track, you have to make choices, have fewer elements, learn what's actually not necessary, know what you can take out when you want to add a melody, trick the listener, there's a lot to learn fr...

Re: My compositions made in MaxYMiser!

You music keeps getting better, are you taking lessons? Either way keep it up! Thank you very much! :D No, I am not, and sometimes I have felt like I wasn't improving (and I do think my previous MaxYMiser tune, Whistling Winds, might be my weakest yet). However, I do try to both attempt new things ...

Re: My compositions made in MaxYMiser!

This might be my best yet! Not suitable to actually use in a video game, because it tells a story... it could be good for a cutscene though, I suppose. ;)

I think my favourite would be Combat, the classic tank game. :) Haven't played it in a while, though. Bubble Bobble is great for coop.

Re: My chiptunes

There is a Winter Chip battle every year, whose deadline is generally around february ;) Are you joining yourself again? I got my tune finished, but then saw that the deadline has been extended by two weeks, and as such I'm going to wait a bit with submitting it, and ask a housemate for feedback fi...

I voted 'No' before reading the new posts in the other topic... oops. I'd probably vote 'Yes' now, after finally reading an explanation. :P

Re: Editing a message

We made the change to prevent abuse. While the amount of times its happened is small, the change was made to prevent it happening again. The ideal solution is to have shadow copies / versioning of posts, so that if something questionable happens, mods/admins would be able to see what edits had been...

Re: Allister Brimble's Dizzy tracks

doesnt jam have default of 3 min which can be changed? Yes, but this only has an effect if the track either does loop, or is longer than 3 minutes. ;) The music driver (Amiga soundtracker chip routine) needs two values on init. D0 - Sub tune D1 - Loop yes/no Currently the SNDH sets loop to off. How...

Allister Brimble's Dizzy tracks

Hi, it's me again! When playing SNDHs from the Dizzy series in JAM or SND Player, tracks done by Allister Brimble don't loop, whereas tracks from other composers, such as 4-Mat, do. This is probably not specific to the Dizzy series, but they are the only games I'm looking into right now. ;) Does an...

Re: Editing a message

I think for adding [SOLVED] to the title, it is easy to just report the post. It is not standard for forums to have titles modifiable by regular members, as far as I'm concerned.
However, something that I wouldn't like to report my post for is fixing a typo or spelling error...

Re: Editing a message

It's common practice to restrict editing at most forums. To me it was more surprising they allowed it. The change seems logical. In the past year I've been active on 10 forums besides this one, and none of them restricted editing with one specific local exception (an auction section). Most forums d...

Hm, yeah.
Can you get your messages edited by reporting them, or does reporting not allow you to input a reason? (I don't dare trying, just in case it does something bad)

Re: Using 4096 colours

If you're converting images perhaps from other platforms rather than new compositions then I've enjoyed using photochrome http://www.leonik.net/dml/sec_pcs.py With some of the options, for static pictures displayed over 2 or more frames you can emulate 226,981 colours on STe. On older CRT TVs they ...

Re: Using 4096 colours

NeoChrome Master ( http://dhs.nu/files.php?t=single&ID=25 ) can run in STe mode, but to avoid confusion, the STe has a PALETTE of 4096 colours - low resolution can still only show 16 different colours the same as the normal ST, but the 16 colours on the STe can be from the bigger palette. Programmi...
