Re: New YM tracker: TTRAK

I just got started with it; it's pretty cool! The tutorials seem to refer frequently to another tracker, which this was based on. What is this tracker? I've only used MaxYMiser on Atari. Two things I've noticed so far: Ctrl + works for octave up, but Ctrl - doesn't work for octave down. Or is this d...

Re: My chiptunes

And yes It's a maxYMiser tune (without DMA), you can view it in action from the YouTube link, or just grab the attachment :) I'd already heard it (it's great!), but it was cool to check it out in MaxYMiser, thanks. :D That snare is interesting indeed... also, I think this might be the first time th...

Re: Questions about MaxYMiser

There's a minor issue that I've had to deal with since I started using MaxYMiser, and I wonder if everyone's affected by it. When I start playback from within a pattern (using shift + enter), the last step is skipped on the way to the next pattern.

607's MaxYMiser compositions

I made an Atari ST compatible tune for the first time! It is a boss theme; something that I have been wanting to create for many years, but was always intimidated by the idea of. I thought I was skilled enough to do it now, and I am quite happy with how it turned out. :) It's a long one! Epic Confro...

Re: Recording audio

Just listened to YQN's recording: it does not have clipping! (except on the drums, but they're supposed to) Sounds pretty good overall to be honest, the only issue is you notice the monitor hum during (the rare :P) quiet parts.

I contacted YQN last week (and last year :P) to do this. :)

Re: Recording audio

Just add 50dB in audacity and your recordings are good  No; the recording clips, as I've said and you can see in the picture above. ;) See the opening paragraph at Wikipedia for an explanation of clipping. Edit: It is good to know that people not using Atari seem to have this issue too, tho...

Re: Recording audio

This evening my uncle and I (well, my uncle :P) made the cable, using the cables I had got from the webshop. The good news: it works! The bad news: it still clips when recording with the Zoom H1n. :( I made a recording where I compared recording from the audio out and recording from pin 1 on the mon...

The tune was made by Modmate, in case you'd like to know. :) It was easy to find out, as the name of the author is included with the file header.

Re: Recording audio

Thanks for the detailed response, dma! It's good you asked. If I take out the stereo RCA cable completely, I get no sound from the monitor anymore. This could indicate an issue with the SCART cable, but it could also be incompatability with the CRT, I suppose. The cable at least is not completely de...

Re: Recording audio

I think you should ask someone with knowledge to build the right cable for you, because probably no one sells it. Buy an Atari ST to SCART cable, or use your existing one. And then ask someone to modify it and solder a mono RCA cable on the mono audio coming from the ST (pin 1, according to http://...

Re: the atari ST screen resolution

I hope it's okay that I reuse this forum. I have managed to get a picture with lots of colours (way more than 16) to load up using PhotoChrome and PCSVIEW2, and I wonder if it's possible to make it stretch to the outer edges of the screen. Does anyone have experience with this? I have done a fair bi...

Re: Recording audio

OK your monitor got a SCART input. So here it would your "ST video out port to SCART" cable that could be modified, to have the audio coming from the ST video out port to some audio RCA or jack. You can see here the pin 1 which provides audio out (in mono): http://info-coach.fr/atari/hardware/inter...

Re: Questions about MaxYMiser

There's no trick to use more than 8 digidrum samples in one tune, right? I feel like there would be room for it (because you can have 8 very long samples, I would figure it should also be possible to have 32 short samples, for instance).

Re: Recording audio

Yes, mono is fine. With the video connector, do you mean that what goes out of the output labelled "Television" on the STE, I mean the connector where you connect your STE to your monitor. Your cable should have one or two RCA leads that you currently connect to your monitor sound input, connect th...

Re: Does an Atari STE need maintenance?

Thanks! Yeah, it was probably one of the Amigas they were talking about, indeed. It's good to hear I am not running that risk! I might look into replacing the power supply unit. I found a "plug and play replacement" for €59, does that sound right or should there be cheaper alternatives? I did worry ...

Re: Recording audio

Thanks for the quick replies. :) If mono is OK then just pick up the sound from pin 1 on the video connector. This signal has lower output than the stereo output. Yes, mono is fine. With the video connector, do you mean that what goes out of the output labelled "Television" on the STE, and turns int...

Recording audio

To those who record their tunes of original hardware: how do you get the audio? I used to do line in from the right audio channel into my MP3 player, which worked well, but I think it wasn't in as great quality as it could be (because the device isn't designed for line in recording, it's just an ext...

Does an Atari STE need maintenance?

Hey guys. Our Atari STE has never had any issues, but some time ago I heard a podcast where a certain type of computer was mentioned (I can't recall which) in which there was one component that would almost always break down after 30 years. It was fairly easily fixable, but if it wasn't fixed the ma...

Re: Question(s) about MaxYMiser

When I try to load an SND that's on a different diskette than MaxYMiser it appears to load but I don't get back to MaxYMiser but stay stuck at a black screen instead. This hasn't been solved, by the way. :P I've composed on emulator since, and now that I'm doing a tune on the Atari again I simply s...

Re: My compositions made in MaxYMiser!

I think it's a great exercise to not use the DMA channels, it forces to focus on what's important in the track, you have to make choices, have fewer elements, learn what's actually not necessary, know what you can take out when you want to add a melody, trick the listener, there's a lot to learn fr...
