You should squeeze in a question about the licensing of TOS. Who licensed it? What licensing terms? Rights to sub-license etc...
Another questions (observation) comes to mind!
Was the Falcon modeled after the NeXT? Same processor + DSP! Was the idea to produce a cheap NeXT?

Re: STM PSU pricing poll
If you have a STM with 2 drives you have 3 separate power supplies + long cables. Getting rid of that is worth something. AUX = +5v/2A USB plug? I would do 2x of these. 50-75 is a bargain. 75-100 is still fairly easy to sell. 100-125 is sounds expensive but if it looks good I would buy it. +125 ... ...

Re: VGA adapter with Blow Up and VGA/RGB switch
Curious. Can you set a video mode on the Falcon to get the equivalent of overscan if connect to a SM124?
Might be relevant as I have a well adjusted SM124 in storage.

Re: Extra PSG sound chip?
I had (have?) such a upgrade. It was a piggyback thing with a extra chip that gave a out 3 individual channels of sound. One for each channel... so not mono, not stereo... trio sound? So you got 3 RCA out connectors and you had to choose which two channels to combine to be either left or right. Not ...

Re: Future source-code patches for TOS 2.06/3.06
Surprising what you can find. On the Atari HQ CD I found the License agreement for TOS 3.06 for use in the Medusa040. File: TOS_LICN.RTF License expired 12/31/1999. (No signing date) Highlights: License cost 40$ per copy up to 500 units 30$ for each copy above that. Minimum 25 licenses at 40$ = 100...

Re: Future source-code patches for TOS 2.06/3.06
Hmmm... is this a case of better to ask for forgiveness than permission? Asking Atari(?) to GPL sources might result in a negative answer. Still thinking of sending Atari an email at least to ask for clarification if they still retain the original sources and IP. If they do, and the code is the jumb...

Re: Help Compiling TOS 2.06/2.08/3.06 in any language
Considering Atari is focused on games and the Atari brand I believe (think/guess) it should not make much difference to them. This is a OS not a game. Retro computing may be really sexy but it's not a money maker. What could they expect to collect? 10k€? Peanuts! They would not recover their own cos...

A original Atari ST TOS 1.0/1.02 or 1.04 will not work with a 010, 020 or 030 CPU, you must install 6x 27C256 Eproms with EmuTOS in the ST machine ... I think I might have confused you guys. Thanks for the reply's. Well now I know what to expect. The case is in excellent shape, looks brand new, so I will probably get it anyway.
I just found a Atari Falcon in excellent shape offered for 690€ here in Finland. Too bad it's beyond my budget at the moment.

The PayPal is now blocked until I resolve it with them - this came sooner than expected. They got the money people sent, but it won't release them to my account until I send them the documents... 520STFM surface mount chips?
I've been offered a working 520STFM that I am thinking of using for parts. The plastic is in great shape. However, I have a feeling it might be one of the late production models with surface mount chips. Have only seen pictures and can't open it up. Is there any way of telling what type of motherboa...

Re: Solder - what to use?
It seems this was a good questions to ask. Doing a bit of Googling suggest it is a very bad idea to mix old style lead solder with new lead-free solder. (Search: "mix lead free solder") Apparently mixing solders can cause solder joints to fail... which is kind of bad. Recommendations I found to remo...

Solder - what to use?
I just realized I haven't soldered anything in about 15 years. I'm proficient at soldering and de-soldering so that should not be a problem... but there are clearly more solder options available today! Is there anything worth avoiding? I still have some old lead based solder somewhere so I will prob...

Disassembled and cleaned everything including washing the case with soap and water. Except for some ...

Re: ST-238R ST-225 Megafile 20 30 MFM RLL
Hi guys! New here. My main machine back in the late 80's early 90's was a Atari 520ST (M = modulator, USA 1986 model) upgraded to 1MB, TOS 2.06, a SM124 + overscan and a Megafile 30. I was at the end using it mainly as a terminal emulator for dialing in to University UNIX and VMS systems. Long story...
