Re: Kid friendly ST games

Thanks all for the suggestions. Yes I think Lemmings is out because it requires mouse and pretty pinpoint mouse sometimes too. Dizzy, Dynablasters are good suggestions. I also like Boulder Dash because it has puzzle elements to it - good to get their brains working! There are quite a few games in th...

Kid friendly ST games

I showed my kids a few games I liked playing when I was young - they seem to have latched onto Prince of Persia and are loving playing that. What other games are fairly simple to control and reasonably chilled / not too hard? I'm thinking Zool is another good one. Bubble Bobble and Rainbow islands I...

Re: .PAC compressed image format

One of those situations where after weeks of searching, I answer my own question just after posting. It turns out, the compact accessory included with STOS has a 'save as binary' option (instead of the more commonly used 'save as memory bank') - this option uses the .PAC file extension :) So instead...

.PAC compressed image format

Does anyone know what extension / accessory would make compressed .PAC files out of full screen bitmaps, that could be used in STOS?

Or does anyone know the file format of such files?

Re: Hey Atari Gang.

Hi & welcome to the forum! I don't think people here are hostile. You'll get the odd interloper (usually a fan of another system - and brings that up all the time) that eventually rubs people up the wrong way & it all blows up. Or perhaps someone feels like they've been wronged and posts an "I'm lea...

Re: 970 x 720 .... is that possible ?

Original Atari ST low resolution was 320 x 200. So 640 x 400 would be double that, and 960 x 600 would be triple. No idea if that is possible though!

Re: What is your Favorite 2 or multiplayer Game On ST/e/F030

One of the 'F15 Strike Eagles' had an interesting 2-machine link mode where 2 players on two machines could be the two man crew of a single F15, with one player piloting and the other player being the 'Wizzo' (Weapons Systems Officer / Navigator) in the back seat - quite a difficult and responsible...

1 Civilization

4 Lemmings
5 F-19 Stealth Fighter

(Special mentions to Prince of Persia, Blood Money, Turrican 2 & Lotus 2 because I feel bad leaving them off the list)

@christos what do you mean "new role as an ST based console" - I thought the Jaguar was a totally different architecture to the ST line?

Re: Drawing program for Atari ST

All of these will be limited to 320 x 200 x 16 colours: DEGAS NEOchrome Canvas (my favourite) Or Spectrum 512 will give you 320 x 200 x 512 colours. You're talking about game graphics right? There is modern PC software dedicated to bitmap editing too, it'd probably be easier to convert from modern f...

Re: Atari ST question

MrPixel you cannot fix a 2018 graphics card to an Atari ST. Graphics cards did exist I believe, but they were all circa late '80s, early '90s, very expensive, and very little software (e.g. no games) will take advantage of them.

An Atari ST which was released in 1985 will not be capable of running arcade games released in 1994 or 1998.

Re: Is this possible?

There are lots of arcade conversions on the ST. Almost none of them (except for maybe some early games?) are perfect, most needed to be cut down to the STs graphics / memory / sound constraints.

Re: a simple way to hide all Mist/Mister posts

I don't mean any bad feelings towards the Mister guys, but I think when > 50% of a forums posts are not on the main subject of the forum (Atari 16/32 bit Computers), perhaps they need to be migrated to a new forum. As I type this the active topics page has 50 posts, of which 26 are in the MiST / MiS...

Re: a simple way to hide all Mist/Mister posts

I am still for outsourcing them completely from AF due to the sheer volume of posts by now. This makes sense to me - it is its own stand alone product - it should have its own forum. My issue is I consume this website via active topics RSS feed - can an active topics RSS feed be setup without inclu...

Re: What does Atari do better than Amiga?

Not sure if I understand the purpose of this question. If you are talking base original machines (ST vs A500), then the ST has a slightly higher (was it 10%?) clock speed than the Amiga, which meant a slight advantage to the ST when doing CPU bound tasks. The only application of the top of my head w...

Loved this game, and have recently been thinking about how to hack it. Dont the trainers let you turn on / off different features individually, one of them being infinite fuel? I suppose you aren't asking for infinite. To be honest I only tried the proper game without trainers a few times. I remembe...
