Re: 1040 STFM Disk Drive options ?

Please try the search function on Atari-Forum. There are multiple threads for alternative drives...epson, sony, etc. To maintain the original appearance, you will want a drive that will accept your current OEM Atari floppy faceplate, eg. Epson 340. Here’s a couple of links to get you started: http:/...

Re: IDE autoboot for TOS 1.04

Here is a MonSTer (alanh) that I purchased from Darklord and installed in my Mega ST4. 95BE60DE-7FD7-48DB-A5D3-9931AC77C9C0.jpeg The Mega ST4 was from the UK, so I replaced the PSU with a meanwell. I used the IDE auto boot 1.04US TOS from Czietz. I added with an ide2sd adapter and I added a gotek be...

Re: Floppy Disk Stream Image Repository

Mikerochip has uploaded a number of 7Zip dump files to my Dropbox link and I have quickly reviewed them. The ones with clean dumps (36 games) are now on the Stream Image Repository. I have added a sub-folder called "greaseweazel dumps" for now to keep these identifiable but DrCoolZic can change thi...

Re: Greaseweazle disk image reader writer

Hi Bama, how much is postage to Ireland, can I ask? I can’t imagine a first class envelope to you will be very expensive. PM your address and I will check. I've been scanning in covers and disks, and now I want to start dumping my floppies!! (My efforts are here: https://archive.org/details/@mikero...

I am planning on upgrading my Mega ST with a MonSTer for TOS switching and internal IDE mass storage. Your patch is PERFECT for my project!

Thank you!

I was preparing for a power supply swap until I read the label. My MKX works with both 120 and 220v.

Best floppy mechanism

I am new to disk preservation, and I am curious: have there been investigations to identify the best or preferred floppy mechanisms in terms of density. Specially: for DD media does a DD mechanism yield the best flux stream or will an HD or an ED mechanism yield superior results?

He recommends a certain replacement power supply which seems pretty nice and I ordered two of those to mod my STE and later STFM.
The thing has 56W and 5V at 6A and 12V at 2A.
The YouTube comments identify the PSU as a "Meanwell RD-50A."

Re: Floppy Disk Stream Image Repository

I visually re-inspected and then re-cleaned the disk with IPA and a cotton swap = no improvement in image. I slowed step-rate from 3ms to 4ms and added a delay of 4ms = no improvement of image. Two more questions: 1) Are there visual indicators when looking at the physical diskette to indicate which...

Re: Floppy Disk Stream Image Repository

Cool. I will need to download Aufit. :-) I inspected the disk surface visually and did not see defects nor debris. I cleaned the surface with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab before the above stream. Physically which side of the diskette is Side 2, so that I may focus on the areas needing most at...

Re: Floppy Disk Stream Image Repository

Arriving late....
I just built a GreaseWeazle which saves Disk Streams as *.scp files.
I just imaged an original un-modified diskette of UIS 3.32.

How may I share? Do I 7zip it first? On my mac, I believe I would use "Keka."

Re: Greaseweazle disk image reader writer

Yes the 5 1/4 drives must have an external power supply. I'm not talking about the power supply, but about the maximum current of the input/output buffers/drivers at the board. Older DD 5.25 drives (not just any 5.25 drive) require high current components. Now I understand. Are there risks to the h...

Re: Greaseweazle disk image reader writer

It is very nice to have an open source alternative to SCP and the Kryoflux. But unless somebody will provide this fully assembled, and with software that would run directly without something like phyton, then it would be very restricted. Btw, I'm not sure this device is suitable for older 5.25 driv...

Hardware assembled. Firmware installed. Python and GreaseWeazle installed on Mac. I used "ls /dev/cu.*" to confirm my Mac sees the Greaseweazle and to get the proper device name. I have been testing with known good Atari Floppy diskettes. I was able to image a diskette with FastCopy program on it. I...

Hi DarkLord,
I just won the auction for the MonSTer and TOS board. I believe the MonSTer just plugs into the Mega Adapter that plugs in to the Mega Bus.
Do you have any documentation for the other boards?

Re: STacy restoration & upgrade Q's

I agree with susher, version 5.1 might make installation easier depending on its 3D printed bracket. I don't have experience with v5.1. I have included pictures of both my installations. The first is before printed brackets were available and I made the mounting bracket from spare parts and modified...
