Re: STOS BASIC CURRENT NEWS & INFORMATION 2015

Hm. The 2014 pack from http://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/STOSFLOPPY/index.htm won't run on a mega ST 4 with tos 1.02.. is this a known issue with a too old tos?

Re: 2 floppy drive at once ?

Those 14 pin plugs are scarce and expensive. thats why.. but I agree, one should find a external floppy case and install a gotek in it, together with a a/b switch in the machine to select booting external or internal.

Re: flopy drive

It was common on the ST to use extended formatting of disks, i.e. more than 80 tracks and more than 9 sectors /track. Also common on early STs were singlesided drives, and many games came on singleside disks to be compatible with older STs. Also early ST's formatted floppys with the catalog on anoth...

early 1040 STf two bombs at power on - goes away after warming up

My 1040 STfg (the one with dual internal floppies..) has started consistently two-bombing when cold. If I leave power on a couple of minutes and reset it, it boots and runs, seemingly stable. I am powering from a modern ATX supply so hopefully the power is "clean". The original PSU is weak and waiti...

Re: Floppy drive alignment

if you only knocked the top head off, you can actually readjust without equipment, just carefully set the heads down on eachother without a disk in between (cheat the loading mechanism), and adjust until the edges of the heads are aligned visually both in/out and side/side directions. The worst case...

Re: 2 floppy drive at once ?

The 1040 stfm in a picture above is mine, sitting beside me. I have used a modern PC floppy cable with a twist, cut off one end and soldered it to the motherboard (I recommend soldering a female connector the the motherboard instead but I didn't have one at the time) I had to bring in Drive Select 1...

Re: Very first computer

This was in sweden. I was 10 years old in 1986, dad bought a used cheap apple from work, when they upgraded. Same with STFm, a friend bought STE in 1991, i bought his old STFM in 1992. Dad had a 386at home in 1991 or -2 i guess. In 1994 we got a 14400 modem and I discovered late remains of BBS:es an...

Re: Very first computer

The Apple II was used, that means cheap. I used my first summer job money in 1992 to buy a second hand 520STfm, from a friend who got a 1040STE. The step from Apple IIe to Atari was HUGE :)

Re: Very first computer

Got a used Apple IIe with green monitor and two floppies from dad's work for christmas 1986, with DOS 3.3, apple Works 1.2, and a few games. First favorite games were Karateka, E.T Comes Back and Space Raider. It made friends' C64 look like a toy, but monocrome screen was not as cool as theirs. Firs...

As the subject says. I am in Sweden, so within driving distance would be easiest, postage is an option if not horrendously steep priced. Make an offer!

IF you read teh article carefully, it says there are only a hundrd or so machines affected in the hands of users.. That suggests to me a bad batch of chips, not a whole series, am I right?

Re: MEGAFILE 60 disk capacity issue

ICD pro does a real good job of testing the surface when you use the "markbad" option. On both my megafile 20 and 30 that test included the printed list on the drives and some more(new) errors, with ICD pro there is no need to type in the defect list by hand, just run through all the included tests ...

Re: Megafile 30 configuration

Great progress. Some folks really discourage using harddrives with tos 1.0, but I have 1.02 in my 1040STF and it goes great. You are however more limited to number of folders opened in one session, need a foldrxxx.prg inthe autofolder, and limited partition size without tricks (max 16 meg partitions...

Re: ST-238R ST-225 Megafile 20 30 MFM RLL

That is good news, but beware! you hav ejust formatted the first two thirds of you r ST225 into RLL, because the megafile 30 board is hardcoded for rll. If you had success, that is great but then you can just as well reformat calling it an ST238 - and get 30 megs on it.

Re: External Gotek Adapter?

If you change a jumper on the gotek it can do both drives at the same time, atleast with the HxC firmware. then you can set up the slots with different image pairs. What you wnat to do is entierly possible, but i just thopught I'd mwntion this possibility as well, it might save you some work..
