Falcon System Startup and Warm Reset Q
Excuse my lack of correct terminology. Will try to get my question nailed down in less than a page. I'll break it down into paragraphs so my errors or misconceptions can be corrected :) On cool boot or warm reset, the COMBO writes a small bootstrap into ST RAM for the 030 to execute. First executed ...

Re: Atari Sparrow DSP Board
The placement, at least on the drawings is interesting as I'd read somewhere one revision of the Sparrow had a PGA socketed 56K. Bought a fully functional (as much as a Sparrow can be) from Wizztronics in the mid 90's. Was excited to be able to tinker with it, especially the prospect of a PGA socket...

Re: Falcon repair advice needed
Just ran across in the Falcon field service manual, the drawing for "PCB SUB ASSY" CA401332-TAB, sheet 1, Rev J, in note 11, to jumper R221 or place a 0 ohm resistor there. So his board is updated to Rev J and the 0 ohm resistor is correct. From his photos, it's a super clean board, never "hacked" o...

Re: Help with NOVA and NVDI 5
Some of the versions I have use an install, other just include the two drivers.
There's a long description of the file in the TT Facebook group just posted.

Re: Falcon repair advice needed
Honestly, don't really follow my own advice there :) Leaving the bottom shield, and insulating paper just reduces risk of dragging a component off the bottom of the board. Without the shield, typically connect an alligator wire loop from the PS leg to the cart shield. But, as you are relatively new ...

Re: Help with NOVA and NVDI 5
Zipped up all the versions from a Falcon-NOVA-Afterburner setup. Included the auto folder, GEMSYS file, and versions of the NOVA drivers from V2.61 to V2.67T. Like Id said earlier, think at V2.66 the drivers became generic. Didn't weed out all the other files from the afterburner/falcon setup, too m...

Re: Help with NOVA and NVDI 5
Did some searching, found a discussion from 1998 on the archived comp.sys.atari.st about the NOVA drivers. Looks like for the ATI card V2.66 was released, and said to be a "generic" install, where previous versions were specific to machine. A user was saying though he couldn't get V2.66 to work on h...

Re: Help with NOVA and NVDI 5
No not at all.
I'm saying the original NOVA driver for the ATI is not dependent on NVDI.
It was around that time (mid 90's) NVDI ET came out AIRC, but has nothing to do with an ATI card l.

Can fill in the blanks if there is interest for the Mighty Sonic 32 (not to be confused with Eagle Sonic) and Afterburner 040. Re: Help with NOVA and NVDI 5
May have the original disk with TT drivers on it from Nima at Homa House. Think that's what wongck is saying he used. At that time, don't think NVDI had the ATI graphics card option. That said, forget what card you are using. Most the sys files are for native resolutions. Other than whatever the NOV...

Also, on the left front Rev letter. Can you post some close up photos of the solder pad where the resistors are located as in the photo I included. Also the area just left of the ST RAM card, where either the PAL or NTSC clock is located. Also a photo of the inside where the video connector is. Shou...

Re: Falcon repair advice needed
Yes, talking about the lower shield the motherboard sets in. Unless you need access to the bottom of the board, it's a warm fuzzy to have it in place. Maybe take some soldering wick and reattach the "old" leads. Those take a bit of heat as they are tied to the grounding plane of the motherboard. If ...

Slow down a bit, set the CT aside for now. Everyone here will help going step by step. I'm the same as you, years of handling Falcons, no electronic background. At one time had 14 up and running, so seen my share. Reason for soanu questions is to get a starting/reference point.

And, for kicks, stay away from using RF out. Not that it doesn't work, just eliminates yet another link in the troubleshooting process.

Re: Falcon repair advice needed
So....anyway, here's a link to photos showing "this" Falcon, performing the memory check, and finally getting to the TOS ROM desktop with no floppy, hard disk or keyboard connected. The NVRAM battery is also long dead. And as mfro said, the grounding is important, and the lower shield is the easiest...

Re: new Nova drivers
Without going back too far in the thread, you need to edit the XaAES.cnf file. Load it in QED, search for "video". There you will find an area of the file where various setting are (Abit confusing for me) available. Tried to make sense of it, having a Super Videl made it easier, I used it's setup fe...

Re: Does mintsett.acc to freeze a system (or at least CT60) if left running as an accessory under TOS?
Thanks. I'm a hard student, but learning :) For reference, had been going back to an old back up CD from 2000 or so. Obviously, lot of that setup is dated. Have 3 back up image drives now, making changes is much less thrilling. Realize the MiNT builds are now pretty much drag on, copy a few files an...

Yes, there's a smiley face after the KELLIS statement, and again :) That's been how long ago, since your Hades was running? Some years for sure. I'm happy that it does what I need, now knowing how it's better used. It makes clear MP status, since the naming convention "mintnp" use has long since bee...

Re: How to install FreeMiNT - simple step by step guide
A question I'm dying to ask, for some reason I'm strongly attached to XCONTROL.ACC. Is COPS "promoted" in these releases because of the GNU thing, and the latter an Atari application? COPS isn't "promoted" by the FreeMiNT team, its just that it can be supported and legally distributed (contrary to ...
