Non-polarized 4.7µF 35v cap in 1040STf

This cap (C74) is located below/under the floppy drive, I'm pretty sure it's for the audio DC? If not, then please correct me. Anyways, I changed this one for a 22µF 100v non-polarized (the only new NP cap I have), is this okay? If this is a no-no, then I'll solder the old one back in (I changed it ...

Re: [HELP] Need pic of underside of STFM PSU

I still need a picture of the underside of this PSU (where the traces are)... I changed some coomponents and turned it on, and BANG, big sparc and fuse blown. I checked all the polarization and voltages, I guess I made a solder bridge somewhere. :( I checked the 110v/220v "jumper" pads, it is proper...

RAM tester app for ST?

I have an Atari 1040STf with Rainbow TOS 1.04, but I suspect the RAM might have bad segments (not sure though!)
Does there exist any good RAM testers for the ST? Either GEM (preferrably) or bootable.

Thanks!

[1040STf] Constant "Click!"-sounds on boot

Hello, My Atari 1040STf is acting very weird when I turn it on - I get the "key pressed" sound constantly over and over, like a key is stuck. If I touch any key, the sound disappears and everything is fine... This happens on every boot. However, no keys are stuck, and I've even disassemblied the key...

Re: PC app for copying files to an ST floppy image

I don't want to dump Atari ST disks, I want to create new .ST/.MSA disk files on my Windows PC from bare files! Let's say I have C:\MYM_V129 on my PC - I want to add this folder to a new .ST/.MSA disk file so I can write it out to a floppy with FloIMG, then pop it in my Atari ST and run maxYMiser th...

PC app for copying files to an ST floppy image

My Atari 1040STf has got TOS 1.00 and therefore can't read DOS formatted disks... (I'm waiting for Rainbow TOS 1.4 from eBay) But I can write images from my PC using FloIMG though. I wish to write MaxYMiser to an empty .ST disk file so I can write it with FloIMG and open it in GEM on my Atari - is t...

Is this motherboard still up for grabs?
I'll take it if you're willing to send it to Norway... I'll of course pay for the shipping. Please, my only Atari 520STfm (the motherboard) is dead

Black screen with grey lines on boot -> freeze

Machine specs: Atari 520STfm PAL - 512kB Rev. B mainboard TOS 1.04 - 2 chip ATX PSU (2x GND -> 3x GND || 1x +5v -> 2x +5v || 1x +12v -> 1x +12v) Voltage lines: +12.89v +4.92v Should be OK, the 12v rail is more tolerant. The original PSU just died once, so I made an ATX->weird-6-pins adapter myself....

Re: [HELP] Need pic of underside of STFM PSU

Wow... I connected the PSU back in the ST, and was like "Nh..nn.... PLEASE.." while I flipped the switch. Anxiety deluxe. But to my surprise, the ST booted the demo from the floppy just fine. Sound working, everything. No bad smell or "BANG!" sounds. Even LESS noise from the PSU than before! :D :D :...

ok well those 2 solders you have circled need to be seperate ie: NOT joined to anything else! 100% sure? Re: [HELP] Need pic of underside of STFM PSU

I indentified all the electrolyt radical through-hole caps of my 220v ASP34-3: 3x 35v 330µF 2x 350v 33µF 1x 16v 4700µF 1x 16v 2200µF 1x 25v 100µF If you know any site that sells all of those and ships cheaply to Norway, let me know. Now for a pic - check the blue circles (clicky for biggy): http://i...

[HELP] Need pic of underside of internal ST PSU

UPDATE September 2010: I need a picture of the underside again! A picture of the whole underside if possible. Model ASP34-2 I have this 520STFM whereas the PSU had some dried solder joints. Decided to give it new and fresh solder tin! I noticed that some points were "shorted" on purpose, but I think...

Yep, that's most likely the band I'm talking about. On my Chinon drive it was "laying around" as well... Poor thing!

Re: Atari 520stfm drive problem

Hi, new to this. I have a 520stfm and the floppy drive does not work. It does not make any noise when I turn on machine. It is a Chinon F353AT drive. I hooked up my external 314 drive and when I try to read a disk in the B drive icon, a message says to insert disk in A ? Anybody have a idea as to w...

Re: CHANGE A ST FLOPPY OUT FOR A 1.44MB MODERN DRIVE STICKY

The "Drive select" jumper is sometimes labeled "S0 S1" or "SEL0 SEL1" too... Where a little 0 ohm resistor is the "jumper"... Just use a tweezer and gently desolder it, then move it to SEL0.. Works like a charm here! I really recommend the Sony MPF920 floppy drives, works very good with the Atari ST...

Re: Atari mouse scroll problem!

Hi, Other problem can be breaks in the mouse cable. Try gently pinching the lead and running from one end to the other, then do this in the opposite direction, Strech then compact! This has worked on some ropey old mice before! Regards Wow! I tried to pinch the mouse at the very end (where the plug...

Re: Atari mouse scroll problem!

No, I don't boot with any disk... I don't have any Atari ST floppies either.
Well, I've read that thread before... I've cleaned the "scroll pins" in my mouse with alcohol, and I've resoldered the mouse/joystick ports.
Still exactly the same issue... :x

What are common symptoms of bad Atari ST PSU caps?
And how should I measure the voltage lines? There are so many wires from the PSU to the mainboard... :?

Atari mouse scroll problem!

I have this "good" old original Atari ST mouse... Today, I opened it up and cleaned the 'scroll pins' with alcohol, now they're shiny. Anyways, when I connect the mouse to my ST, it does only scroll up or left. If I move the mouse to the right, or down, it goes .. to the left or up!! What is this?! ...
