Re: exxos's webshop forcefully shutdown :(
I know it's rather old fashioned, and banks don't like it, but you can't go wrong with Personal Cheques. Or Postal Orders. Paid in advance on a cash only basis at the Post Office and guaranteed to be cashable at the other end. I honestly can't think of a more secure means of payment for both the bu...

Re: exxos's webshop forcefully shutdown :(
Someone suggested Bitcoin: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin Another option would be to look for some kind of independent regulatory authority that would make PayPal more accountable for their use of the ban hammer. Certainly some kind of discrimination suit might be possible - anything that fac...

Re: exxos's webshop forcefully shutdown :(
I remember coming across a similar story on AtariAge where someone was randomly banned for buying a ColecoVision homebrew (no one responded to his e-mails either). If I had to guess PayPal's reasoning it would be something along the lines of homebrew/modded products are unlicensed products i.e. no o...

Re: For Sale: Atari ST Book
but for the love of god, I'd want an ST Book, this was so far ahead of it's time and is a damned shame that Atari didn't make/sell more. This is the one that is basically an STe in a laptop, right? I think that's stretching it a bit. It's a monochrome display so you won't be running r0x or Sleepwal...

Re: Atari STm
The power consumption of such a floppy emulator is probably so low that you could power it from the original power supply. Isn't the problem rather fitting the emulator inside the 520 STm's case without too many modification to case and shielding? Or do you want the floppy emulator as an external d...

Re: Atari ST/STE Packs and boxes
Nice collection. Haven't seen an STe Turbo Pack box for years.
The only ST boxes I have are the common as muck 520 STfm Discovery Pack, a white 520 STe box and an original 520 ST box for a very recently purchased STm (still waiting for it to arrive).

Atari STm
I bought an Atari 520 STm with a 1MB upgrade yesterday and was thinking about the possibility of building an adaptor to connect an external floppy drive cable to an external-internal floppy interface and using that to run a Gotek HxC floppy emulator. I have zero experience of soldering or hardware b...

Some games also allow the user to change refresh rate. Off the top of my head, Super Hang On and Anarchy.

Re: Frogger STFM/E BETA Release Vers: 11th Aug
Hard disk version runs without issue on my 4MB STe with TOS 1.62. Great stuff and a real improvement on Dave Munsie's Frogger. And kudos for coding the game to work on a 1MB STfm. There are too many STe/TT/Falcon master-racers as it is and the older hardware often gets forgotten. Would love to see m...

Re: Convert UK STFM to North America
The monitor port can be used for composite or RGB so there should be no need to use the RF modulator. The power issue might just be a question of using a UK to US travel adaptor. I've used a few foreign power supplies from Europe for other systems and a travel adaptor has done the trick. A few peopl...

Re: What was the first game you played on your ST?
I had the 520STE Turbo Pack and I don't remember if the dealer threw in extra games or not (Digicom) but the first one I played was Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade - Action Game. Bring a big Indy fan... Same here, but the first game I played was Outrun. That was quite a good bundle. The only dud...

ST Article in this month's Retro Gamer
Six page article in this month's issue (#140) in honour of the ST's 30th anniversary which seems to have been forgotten in all the hype for the Amiga's 30th.
Will comment more when I've had a chance to read the article in more depth.

Re: TOS 1.04 on an STE
May I ask what you expect to gain from this? A 4MB STe with 1.62 is a pretty good all-rounder. A few versions of older games won't work, but there are usually alternative versions or hard disk adaptions that will run instead. If you want to use the non-STe versions, it makes sense to just use an STf...

Re: STFM teardown with upgrades and other videos
I saw these videos a while back. The STfm teardown was of particular help to me as I was able to use the information to replace the motherboard on a non-working ST. I can now open up and disassemble an ST, replace a disk drive/keyboard/PSU and put it back together again. Hopefully, I'll get round to...

This is a game I discovered recently. Ultra hard side-scrolling shoot-em-up by Hewson. I find it both relaxing and addictive. At the moment, I'm trying to reach the second high score of 30,000 but the highest I've got so far is about 18,000. The 100,000 top score seems a long way off. I guess I find...

Re: Onslaught
I had the Mega Drive version of Onslaught as a kid, but it was too complex a game for me at the time. These days I enjoy the ST version a lot. It's great when you find games that were lost on you as a child but can appreciate as an adult.

Re: Best ST joypad?
Joystick all the way. A d-pad only gives you about 1/10 of the flexibility you need for home computer games.
My joystick of preference for the ST/Amiga/Spectrum/C64 is the Mindscape Powerplayer. Ideal for games that require a lot of precision like Stunt Car Racer.

Re: OutRun, positively surprised
Both graphic and sounds seems not as good as the ST version ( first game I test that has better sound on ST I think ). Depends on what you call better sound. I'll take a properly composed ST song over a load of facile Paula sampling any day of the week (Oh yeah!) Having said that, when Amiga music ...

Outrun is the first ST game I ever played (also first version of Outrun I ever played) and I was completely blown away by it. 23 years on, Outrun still remains one of my favourite games on the ST.

Looking that cover pic of Go! release with text "The brothers are history !" I asking self - did such provoking made Nintendo suing them ? :D I believe that's the case. There are other games that have cloned the Super Mario format in more subtle ways and not suffered any legal consequences (Kid Cha...

Re: Disk drive is giving up
(I'm getting dangerously low on working disk drives - a general guide on how to get them back into working state would be much appreciated. I'd rather stay away from switching them out for other models). I'm not an expert on this but there are a couple of things you can do: - clean disk drive with ...
