Re: maxYMiser High released
Well, that’s true - the normal font has just been increased 2x without adding extra detail :) But the ugly font is being generated directly ;) I guess the aesthetics are a question of taste. Making it look like the colour version was indeed a consideration. The graphics and GUI already needed to hav...

Re: maxYMiser High released
Not sure what you mean, in fact nothing is dithered except the logo.
Have you tried the hi-res version? There is no rendering engine or something. The whole graphics engine and a lot of the GUI was recoded.

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
I had a little dig into the format of Akai disks. What I read fits into Ijor’s comments before. It should have:
2 sides
80 tracks
10 sectors/track
1024 bytes/sector
=1600KB
PC, as a reminder:
2 sides
80 tracks
18 sectors/track
512 bytes/sector
= 1440KB

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
Not sure how to respond Ijor, not having the low level knowledge of disk formats and images.
The sampler -> HxE -> STX -> Atari chain is working well for me now, which is awesome.
Obviously I’d like to see things done properly and I’m ready to test anything anyone wants.

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
Thanks again for looking at this Nicolas! I’m kind of excited with how this is working out. Edit: in fact, I think it is the floppy controller that is clocked between 8 and 16MHz - I remember this from when I upgraded my MegaSTe years ago. Finally, DD disks work fine in my HD equipped MegaSTe. Actua...

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
I just tried EmuTOS (version 0.9.10 from last year, 256K ROM)
In fact yes..
Although the desktop does not provide me the option to format a high density disk, the AkaiSex program does correctly recognise the image as being HD, and works properly with the disk.

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
Thanks Bob, it’s very good of you to check my findings.
I agree with your assessment. Indeed, my immediate problem is solved. Still, I think it’d be very handy to select an HD drive on the MegaSTe mode.

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
Thanks for the reply, but there is no mistake here. That image definitely works if you use the AkaiSex program. However, it won’t work if you read it using normal Atari methods that’s for sure. I transferred several Akai disks using Hatari and high density STX files last night. Absolutely it works. ...

Re: 1.44 Floppy image
I don't agree here. Many MegaSTes have HD drives, and furthermore, I have discovered a software (see other thread) that doesn't work properly with HD disks without proper detection in the OS.
Therefore, I definitely think there needs to be support for the MegaSTe HD drive DIP switch.

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
more playing the .STX file works absolutely fine. the problem is that Hatari does not have an option to enable high density disks in Mega STe mode. In TT and Falcon modes it works absolutely fine. Unfortunately the TT mode runs quite slowly on my Apple, but Falcon is ok. If there could be a checkbox...

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
It’s probably where TOS 2.06 makes a decision about the HD floppy drive cookie and enables things like the HD floppy format option on the desktop.

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
It’s funny though, because on MegaSTe mode, the HD drive is not emulated. TOS thinks it has a DD drive connected.

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
It occurs to me it might not necessarily be on the Pasti support side, but in general support for high density drives. Anyway - we will see!
Thanks for looking at this gents.

(Indeed I don’t care too much about accurate timing, I just want to read stuff off the image. It is tanatalisingly close to working.)

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
The hfe was created on an Akai sampler. The Atari software (AkaiSex) definitely supports HD disks, I used to use them back in the day. Since my GEM format menu on Hatari doesn’t have the option to format high density disks, and there is no way to tell Hatari to emulate an HD drive, I do question wet...

Or maybe where you select the disk images, there is an option there to select double sided, could add HD here?

Re: 1.44 Floppy image
I’d like to resurrect this ancient thread as I’ve been playing around a lot with Hatari and high density disks last night. In fact, I haven’t seen an option in the Hatari config menus to inform it that the drives are high density. The GEM disk format menu doesn’t give an option for high density as I...

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
I appreciate you taking the time to have a look. The disk has started out on an Akai sampler with an HxC floppy emulator. I have taken the .hfe file and converted it using the HxC tools. The only Atari format that the HxC tools allowed for this image was .stx The Atari program AkaiSex allows you to ...

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
Of course, it could easily be a problem with the HxC tool. But as I say, it very nearly works.
Edit: it does strike me as odd that HxC only supports high density for STX and not MSA or ST

Re: High density .STX / pastis support
You say that, and you could well be right, it’s just my interpretation of the spec which says. It’s 80 or 160 for ‘double faced’ disks.
HxC software won’t generate high density images of any other ST format than STX interestingly.
Not pretending to be an expert here, just looking for the real facts!
