1920x1080 stopped working

Postby mikro » Mon Jul 09, 2018 7:22 am

Hi guys,

recently I have noticed a strange issue. I've had a Falcon+CT60e+SuperVidel up and running for some time. I moved from Australia back to Europe this year, still have the very same Falcon setup except the monitor(s). Back in Brisbane I didn't have anything special, just an LCD with VGA/DVI input. Here in Slovakia I have a far better LCD and guess what, it doesn't allow full HD from my SuperVidel! (of course, it is a full HD monitor, I'm typing this from 1920x1080...)

Has anyone ever experienced something like this? I'm totally fine going up to 1680x1050 from the desktop (the LCD's scaling isn't that bad, actually) but 1920x1080 - nope. Both modes (60 and 61 Hz). It just shows "Signal error" and black screen. Tried different DVI/HDMI cables, reflashing FW10, lowering the CT60 clock to 66.6 MHz, ... no difference.

Talked to the Nature guys, couldn't really recommend anything, they have been quite sceptical about being able to fix it by one of the FW11's files.

I'm going to try FW11 (when my JTAG USB cable arrives) but if you can think of something in the meantime, I'm all ears.

P.S. OK, there's one thing I haven't tried yet - CT60/CT63 and another SuperVidel. Will do in the meantime although I don't get my hopes too high.

I have a similar experience with my Firebee, where 1920x1080 does not work on most (*all* except one actually) of my monitors. The problem in that case is wrong sync polarity. I doubt that is the case here, but I would not be surprised if there was a compatibility-issue with the SV's 1920x1080 and your particular monitor. Maybe you should try another monitor.

IIRC 1920x1080 requires the use of reduced blanking, which is ok on digital DVI, but not always on analag VGA monitors. It’s likely to be a timing issue, methinks.

So far the only time I cannot get 1080 was when I used it through a KVM, it does not allow ID ( or was it DID or whatever it is called) information about the capability of the LCD to get over it.

Otherwise, I can get 1080 on either DVI and VGA port - 7000, 7500 and 9250 ( I think - I need to check the models) when it is connect directly.

Are you connecting via a kvm?

As expected, another SuperVidel (and even another Falcon) produces the same results (quite an experience to take out the SV out of storage after so many years, it still had FW004!), on DVI-D of course.

From what I could read from SV's history log, there used to be timing issues for other resolutions as well (1600x1200 IIRC), any chance you could guys take a look at that? I assume it's a FW issue rather than SV_XBIOS one?

Some resolutions are a compromise between bandwidth vs standard display timings, but the good thing it should be tweakable (SV_XBIOS).
