Welcome to Neon Shooter!

Postby MelonGoggles » Mon Mar 26, 2018 9:17 am

Welcome to Neon Shooter :megaphone:

Have you always loved atari like games? Then this must be a game for you!

Before I want to start talking about Neon Shooter I would like to tell you all something about myself.
My name is Luc van Dijk and i follow a game programmer education in Rotterdam. I love making games and I'm about to set up my own business in the industry of making games. Neon Shooter is my first project that im planning on bringing out into the public (information about the game and screenshots below). Of course it is not easy to reach out into the public and get people their attention  thats why i decided to make a post here. Neon Shooters is based on atari games and since a new developer has to get his projects into the hands of the right people I decided to post here.

Neon Shooter

As I said, Neon Shooter is based on atari games. You the player is the ship. Your objective is to shoot down as much meteors and enemy ships as these randomly spawn around the room. Meteors will split up after you destroy them and enemy ships will shoot while they fly. Of course you can just try to dodge it all but that would be boring... So thats where the score system comes in. For anything you destroy in game you will get score.

In progress
- curency system
- achievement system to unlock new ships
- ship upgrades
Of course the game comes with an easy user interface for small options and sounds.

Here is some screenshots of the current build! :D

Not clear for me: what is the targeted platform?

I'd guess, android/ios. Definitely not ST though it could be doable on an accelerated falcon and maybe Jaguar with fewer particle effects. Nothing to do with this forum though, just a developer trying to publicize their game. Nothing wrong with that, except that it's the wrong place to do it.

I found this video. It' s probably this game.

*Moderator note* Moved to "Non Atari" as this has obviously nothing to do with Atari ST or Falcon software.

Posts like the OP make me happy that young people are learning to code despite the increased complexity in modern systems.

The OP's game looks good, and of a similar standard to the things I was doing back when I was a teenager in STOS - although it took me a lot longer than 3 days to get something playable, so perhaps modern tools have progressed things in a positive way.

FYI, the game isn't the one from the linked video (which is a C++ / OpenGL game done by someone a bit more experienced), although the OP hasn't posted what language/toolset he's using, but appears to be PC (or Mac) rather than iOS/Android, as it uses mouse input: https://imgur.com/gallery/eT5v6

In addition to what AnthonyJ said I especially love the way people pass judgement upon others while they themselves don't seem to have released something for the underpowered Ataris :)
is 73 Falcon patched atari games enough ? ^^

With full Xbox360 controller support and being on STEAM, I would take a look at the finished game.
Inexpensive casual indie action games are always nice to have as a filler.
