Screamtracker/ImpulseTracker Falcon 030?

Postby stormy » Sat Nov 19, 2016 9:05 am

Allo,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any way to play these .S3M or .IT tracker formats on a stock Falcon? Or maybe of ways to convert them to standard .MODs or perhaps Flextracker DHS or ACE compatible.

Thx :)

Wow! Really loving that module as well, sounds awesome. Is this your video? I like the TOS setup, is that a custom icon set? Where can I get it? Thx

I don't know why but this is the first time I hear that GT can actually import S3M modules, interesting. I always thought it can play only its own format.

Btw, for 040+ machines you can use mxPlay for all sorts of module formats.

Mikro, yes, its not so obvious. You have to explicitely select the format in the "disk menu - module file" section.

And few additional notes from my fading memory... ;)

For replaying PC formats there are several options but all of them work mostly with "basic" songs not using high-end features like filtering, reverb and others. Especially IT and also XM can be really CPU consuming and feature rich in newer versions which would be too heavy for a Falcon.
Nonetheless, simple songs with up to 16 channels work fine with:
- Graoumf tracker (XM, S3M) - for many channels replay frequency can be reduced with a shortcut (Ctrl-E IIRC)
- Digital tracker (S3M)
- Megaplayer (XM, S3M) - my favourite player on Falcon as its very versatile
- Megatracker (S3M, I think)
- DBE Tracker (XM, S3M) - multichannel even on STE (with low quality audio)
- Sqwards "Growling.ttp" preview (XM)

IT - I think Digital tracker and Graoumf supported it to some degree, but I never had a song to try.

The growling.ttp was super impressive, it played the most intensive S3M files without any slowdown at 50khz. Shame it doesn't have a Gem interface or had any extra development.

Oh, I didn't know Growling loads S3M as well, nice. And yes, I remember it was very impressive with the songs I tested.

Also, now I remember now why I liked Megaplayer so much. I think it was one of the few ways to replay also Digital Tracker modules in the desktop. However, there were small issues with other formats, possibly not 100% accurate command support for MOD files or similar.

As I heard the rumour that an integration of Graoumf converting routs into GemPlay is possible, this become be an allrounder for Falcon, just as mxplay for more advanced machines. And as I just read, Xmp lib also supports DTM.

Actually it might be just XM, I think I converted my s3m files to XM to play them.
