YMT-PLAYER For the Atari ST. 2015-01-16 Ver 1.01

Postby FedePede04 » Tue Dec 23, 2014 6:09 pm

Program (HD-Floppy) music scores
YMTPLAY.rar

Player source code
YSource.rar

Hi all

now that it is Christmas and other have give things to the community, i thought that i all will add to that, so i been fighting to get this little program finish.
i have add mouse control to make it easier to control, but that was not so simple and meant that i had to redo big parts of the program.
so there can very well be some bugs in it, i have not tested it on real hardware, mine is stash away.

it should works under STeem.
know bug, if switching to Drive A/B and there is no disk in, the program will come with a standard dialogue box and hang.

THX to the people that help me tested earlier versions of the program

the rar archive contain a floppy disk version and a HD version.

Ymt-Player Overview

Ymt-Player (Music Renegades)

Ymt-Player (music Puzznic)

a little info about the program.

YMT files are like the YM/AY files.
Music files where you sampled data from the sound chip register (YM2149/AY8910) in a certain interval, instead of having a dedicate player.
up to now (to my knowledge), there have only been YM/AY player that could play tune/score files, that was sampled at 50HZ, but the YMT player can play files up to 300hz (there are some 50hz+ tunes/scores include in the examples)

the advantaged of AY/YM/YMT format, is that to replay these tunes/scores cost very little CPU power, so if you need a lot power for a eg. a 3D demo,
when it could be a wise choice to use it, because it leaves most of the CPU power for 3D calculations and the graphic etc.

and the disadvantaged is that it use a lot of memory, and also that it is nearly impossible to make a routine that can capture and use the SID sound and Samples etc.
it is also why those files need to be hand made, that is the reason why YMT-Player only support pure YM2149 sound.

Merry Christmas all
and may 2015 be a good Atari year
Peter

Not to hijack, but it should sound very different in v3.7, normally more like a true ST.

The program is finish now, so is no longer a beta and and is now released as version 1.0

if the home folder contain a directory call 'SCORES' the path will be set to it.
if run from a hard drive the program will now use a ini file

bug fix:

If the music loop point was not set at the beginning, the music became messy, when it started over again. (it look like, that i accident have delete a line from the sources code without knowing it :( )

Draging in the dir slider, could give 2 bombs when exit the program

Know Bugs:
changing to a floppy disk with no disk in it make the program hang, i will look in to that later :)

see first post for program file.

This works also in monochrome and Hatari VDI modes. However, in mono graphics are messed up and in color VDI modes, the graphics are duplicated and 1/2 or 3/4 of screen area is garbage & flickering (I guess to double buffer flipping).

thx for the feedback

the flickering was due to that i had remove my clear screen routine for testing, and forgot to enabled it again, so it was pageflipping that you saw.. so many thx :D

so i have now enabled the clear screen routine again and uploaded a new version (1.01) it is in the first post

btw. i did try it in STeem high color mode at one time and it just bomb out, but i never meant for the program to run in other then medium resolutions, so i did not take any notice of it..

source code add to first post.. it should work and be assemble using devpac .

this is only the player not the interface, so it should be easier to use in your own program,
sorry but there aren't many comments in the program, so if you have any questions regarding the source code, please don't hesitate asking me for help, but i think that it should be pretty simple :)

i will try upload the score format in the next couple of days.
