I bought two of these last year. I can't remember from where - it was either Best or B & C...

You should know that they do not secure modern 2.5" PATA hard drives. The screw holes do not align so you have to hold them in place with something like an elastic band.

My HDD, when I was using the bracket, just sits on it. As I don't move the Falc around much, there was no problems.

well all you gotta do is drill some new holes, a rubber band is silly as that will rot in time and the drive could move and....... :o

Then not sure why you wanted only original ones... an then you mutilate it.
or do you mean drill new holes on the HDD ?

Drill screw holes in the sides of a 2.5" HDD without breaking it? Now who's being silly?

You meant drill new holes in the bracket? Unfortuantely you cannot.

The place where you would need to drill (for them to line up with a modern HDD screw holes at either end of the drive) there is no metal. You cannot shift the drive forward or backwards in the bracket or either the HDD cable doesn't fit or it doesn't fit against the rear of the falcon case.

I admit that cable-ties are probably better than an elastic band. Whatever you use, make sure you don't cover the HDD exhaust hole(s).

As silly as paying for original parts and then making it into a one-of-a-kind part by modding it.

OK, so I let you guys on a big secret 8O on my Falc HDD not falling or not slipping off and no drilling of holes nor rubber bands nor cable tie.
I just used friction !!
Bend one of the sides inwards slightly enough just to grip the HDD against the other side.

OK... so it slight off form but not mangled nor mutilated.

I just used two holes. Problem solved. Worked in both my Falcons.

Interesting. If that would have worked then I would have done that.

Did you have the metal sheild removed?

From memory :

If I aligned the rear hard drive screw holes with the rear two holes on the bracket the HDD came too far forward and the HDD & cable fouled the metal sheild.

If I aligned the front hard drive screw holes with the front two holes on the bracket the HDD protrudes over the rear of the falcon case and you cannot fit the sheild or the lid.

I'll get the Falcon out later, try again and take a pic or two.

I like Wong's fix... that will work... pliers out time.

all you gotta do is drill 2 holes in the BRACKET at the end there is none (you know like where you need them!)

if you are actually able to use a drill and measuring equipemnt like a ruler and pencil for example  then you can do this neatly, then at the other end of bracket you can use a piece of foam or similar between the drive and bracket so it doesn't "flopp" down

maybe sometime i'll take a pick so you can see (and learn)

anyone suggesting drilling holes into any HD is plain stupid

Yes, both my Falcons have accelerators which requires a modified or removed top metal shield. So that's probably why it worked for me.

I'd drill through the base of the bracket and mount the drive using the screw holes in the base of the drive (rather than mounting the sides).
Mega"SST" 12, MegaSTE, STE: Desktopper case, IDE interface, UltraSatan (8GB + 512Mb) + HXC floppy emulator. Plus some STE's/STFM's

All I have is a Borsch hand drill but no work bench with clamps.
So imposisble for me to drill holes into the bracket.
So a simple solution is needed, so I just bend the metal sides abit.
And they are tough metal, so it does take some doing.

Hi all,
I need a bracket for my Falcon, but Best Electronics sold the very last one last week.
Bad luck.
Any idea where I could buy one? Or something similar that fits in the Falcon case?
Thanks in advance guys :)
