Can I get my PC to Turn off at a certain time ?

Postby sut » Wed Sep 05, 2007 7:49 pm

Just wondering if the following is possible. I normally leave my computer running overnight whilst using emule. But I would like my system to shut down automatically at 6:00AM every morning. Is it possible to do this ?

I'm assuming you're running Windows? If so there's loads of freeware utils to do this for you:

Just one example

Windows 95 had this feature built-in I believe, at least with the Plus-Pack. It also had the feature to turn on at a certain time! How does it keep track of when to turn on, if it's off? It was like magic at the time! :D

I'm sure it can be done as a scheduled task but vague memories of trying a similar thing when I used to run eMule and finding that it wasn't switched off when I asked it to be.

Too easily done! Of all places the shut-off feature is part of the screensaver menu. Here goes:

right click the desktop>properties>screensaver tab>power button>advanced tab, and you can change the settings there.

No shareware necessary. This may be slightly different on your machine, I run win2k, but it should be mostly the same in XP. Vista is a whole different story, I don't know how to change that.

Hope this helps!
