Spherical...raytraced platform shooter?

Postby mwaawm » Wed Aug 22, 2007 2:06 pm

I remember playing a short demo of a game on a coverdisk that consisted of a platform shootemup type game where he main character and all the enemies were made up of raytraced balls. I dont know if it was ever released as the full version and cant even remember the name, though 'spherical' seems to ring a bell.

Anyone else know which game Im on about?
I cant help it if I'm often in doubt but never in the wrong.

I know what you're talking about.

It was never released (apparently), but there could be a more complete version out there somewhere. I tried to contact the developers before but info on the game is scarce. You should be able to find the demo somewhere.

I thing there was a Spherical review in ST Format so I believe it was at least completed. I liked the titlemusic lot but wondered why the logo spinned wrong way around...

Actually, that may not be the same one, as the character and enemies on that one aren't made of balls at all.

It's the only game I can think of called Spherical though. :?

The game you're really looking for is http://www.atarilegend.com/games/games_ ... me_id=3765
It was by Fusion and was apparently to be released in 1993. It is not the same as the Rainbow Arts game.

The title music was the "Puff the Magic Dragon" tune. The piece of music was included as a demo tune in a PD music program called "Mini Sound Machine" (This being a YM-chip music version of "Sound Machine" which used sampled sounds.... Yes, my mind is full of random trivia.)

Actually it did play as well as it looked, it was a rock solid platformer. I played the demo to death!
Pity there is no full version available? I remember talk of it being completed, but never saw a completed version?

I need more info about this game, such as the names of people involved. Searching for a group called "Fusion" is rather fruitless. I'd love to see more of this game.

Not sure if they are the same Fusion/Fuzion who coded that game.

That was the first thing I thought of when I first searched this group a few months back. "Fuzion" doesn't seem to be them. No scene database (that I've searched) has any mention of a group called "Fusion" that was active on the ST.

Okay, I played the demo again last night and found a few things out:

1) The game was coded by E. Zandboer (I'm not sure the first initial was "E")
2) The graphics are by C. Spruyt
3) The demo states that it is "freeware" not shareware

I've contacted someone by email who could be E. Zandboer.

Holy crap I found the right guy! He told me he's been trying to archive the disks (some are unreadable unfortunately) and he has the source code!

This is pretty exciting and I'll keep all of you posted of course.

I've already pointed him in that direction.

However, he's a smart guy and seems to know what he's doing, so no worries.

Things are looking good.

The full game (If it exists) was indeed billed as shareware, I was going to buy it, but it never materialized.

Erik has gotten back to me, and we've been chatting. The game was completed in multiple versions apparently. There was the regular version with 5 or 6 worlds, and a version that had cheats. Erik had imaged the disks a few years ago but they have some issues (likely corruption.) Him and I are now working on building a working copy. Stay tuned folks.
