Atari 5200 Mistified new version

Postby Lroby74 » Mon Feb 18, 2019 11:57 pm

I am trying the 5200 new version (Mistified)..

while old one doesn't works on CRT RGB TV's, this one works..

but after a couple of minutes on Asteroids, crashed..

Joystick controls are not working very well..

on same game and tried to Zaxxon too..

i think that this new version is still a beta, isn't so?

It worked, but you had to download a special build of the core ( build_NTSC_RGB ) from the author's homepage ( http://www.64kib.com/autobuild/20160305 ... C_RGB/out/ ) and load it from the F12-menu. It had no PAL version, as the original A5200 console was sold in NTSC countries only.

I will try NTSC version on my RGB TV, thank you!

I don't see any difference between this one and the old one's joystick handling. Just inherits the same shitty properties of the original analogue pads.
Some games are unplayable without an analogue controller.

I confirm:

- port 1 = only 1 button works
- port 2 = 2 buttons work

So, if I connect only 1 joypad to MiST I cannot play games like Scramble or Moon Patrol.
If I connect 2 joypads and I use the second joypad I can play games which use 2 different buttons.

Please Slingshot may you check if it is possible to fix this bug ?
Thanks for your effort.

I know about the joystick swap option doesn't swap the 2nd button, I already fixed it, will upload a build later on. But other controller issues are not new (and mostly coming from the fact that the console has an analogue controller).

Oh, yes, there are games which use paddle like Super Breakout.

ALL games are programmed for using the analogue control, just MiST simulates it with faking the digital control as a maximum movement for the paddle. Some games find these maximums too much (like Zaxxon).

Thanks Slingshot for the new release.

A question for all Atari guru: it is it possible to convert the Atari 800 XEX files to BIN / A52 format?
Thanks.

The 800 differs in the memory map, I don't think their software is exchangeable.

Most of the good stuff has been ported both ways anyway.

Most ??? :)

Only a little part of the big archive of Atari 800 games.
I found some ports which I tested succesfully on the new Atari 5200 core, but obviously they represent a minor part of all Atari 800 games.

One little question to Slingshot: but the original Mark Watson code source is not good for a MiSTified Atari 800 core ?
It should contains the Atari XL drive source.

:?

Excuse me for this question, but I would like to understand why is not possible to make a simple Atari 800 port updated for YPbPr output.
Always many thanks for your effort to port and improve every MiST core

Does the MISTIFIED version also now mean we aren't tied down to needing 5200.rom and the 5200 folder structure in the root of the SD? Can we move them about to subfolders to satisfy any OCD nervous organization now? :)

You have to make a new dir "a5200" with bin/a52 games, it doesn't need the A5200.rom.

I had tried moving all to a subfolder and some games would hang so I think I must restore my original sub-folder hierarchy that the old core required.

Has anyone found any numpad based controller to work on the mist(er) cores of 5200 or Coleco? The only ones I know of are original controllers for those two systems and the Intellivision. Retrobit, hear my prayers for usb based clones; how great would it be to use original graphical inserts? :)

The new core doesn't require the old folder structure at all, nor it cares about it.
