Is this still dead? no Lattice C 5.5 or 5.6 on the net? how easy is it to buy a copy of the program?

Just downloaded the files. Many thanks for sharing these with the community. Can you confirm which version of Lattice C that the manuals are from? 5.?

Do you have dumps of the disks to go with these as they do not appear on Atarimania.com?

Looks like we still need Miro's copy scanning and dumping to get 5.5/5.6.

Just trying to install Lattice C 5.6 from your website. Do you know what the disk volume labels are? It seems the installer checks the disk volume labels during the install.

They are at least 5.x, possibly 5.5.

So basically any 5.x will do as the base, then just the addendum needs to be scanned.

So it looks like after 14 years we may finally get documentation for 5.5. The information I have about the differences between 5.5 and 5.6 are listed here viewtopic.php?p=88572#p88572 . From what I understand 5.5 doc was with addendum where 5.6 doc was a complete rewrite.

If you get the complete 5.5 package would be good to also publish the diskette content.

Here is the picture I have about 5.5 release (seems like you are missing the installation guide for 5.5?)

Happy to dump the 5.5 disks as I have both Kryoflux and SCP boards. Hopefully the disks are in reasonable condition for dumping.

Glad I asked!!! I am guessing the 5.60 manual must be out there because we have the disk dumps. If the 3 or 4 of us ask around on the various forums we can find.. maybe someone will step up?

Well thats fantastic and I hope you really can contribute, saving things like this is really what the current Retro hobby is all about. I am looking to learn this language, as a way to actually use my ST for something. I would even offer to buy it, if you want to sell?

As a quick question about this C - from what i read, I think this lattice C is pretty close to ANSI .. I know when we get to the 5 and 5.5 5.6 these are specific to Atari and the libraries are more involved and specific to the hardware, but for the ST, would most of you consider what I would learn with this very transferable? OR if I was to start with ANSI C and a book or two on ANSI C programming.. transferable to Lattice C on the ATARI?

I do not fully understand your question

You may find interesting information about software development for Atari in this page http://info-coach.fr/atari/software/development.php . It is a bit outdated but I talk about the most widely used C compilers on Atari. I think that Lattice C is probably one of the best if not the best C compiler on Atari. But due to the lack of documentation for Lattice C I am using the Pure C compiler (or the AHCC equivalent). This is a very good compiler. It generates probably less optimized code but I do not think that this very important.

If you are new to C development on Atari you should read the C-Manship by Clayton Walnuts. It present C language and development for Atari. An hypertext version has been created by Lonny Pursell and I have converted it to PDF so that it can be read on any platform. Although I cannot recommend this C-Manship book to learn the basics of C! For example for functions he uses K&R style; somewhat understandably because when the original book came out, ANSI C89 was really new. But someone who learns C today should not use a book that teaches a programming style from the 1970s.
