KICK OFF 2 + WORLD CUP 90

Post all your Kryoflux related topics in here. From questions about the hardware through to disks you've managed to image up and, probably most importantly, write back without any problems :)

Any chance you could have a look at this too??? I imaged this from my original which is now lost :(

Tronic, you can check your dumps using AUFIT batch tool. It will produce images of the disks that will show any that are obvious bad dumps. Your Phantasie III disk 1 looks bad to me using AUFIT. Disk 2 looks good.

OK, does anyone have a version I can write back to disk using Kryoflux that works please?

Hi tronic. I did post a link to my Kryoflux dump of Phantasie III above. Let me know if this works or not. Here is the link again:

OK, I don't have access to the disks for a few weeks. I will try giving it a clean and re-dump when I get time. Anyone else have a copy they could share?

Kodak, your dump is OK. The problem is the write back on disk. I guess it's one of the game needing to be in IPF, but your dump is seen as modified or not duplicated.....

Hi tronic. Try this Zipped KF RAW for Phantasie III disk 1:
https://mega.nz/#!Z8Ahmaoa!BB-bJ7jT1Jvw ... KpVR8p1fww
I converted the STX from Atarimania to KF RAW using the HxC Emulator software and then used my KF to write it back to a real floppy disk and it booted fine in my 1040STFM. Given that your disk 2 is fine, this should get going. :D

Atarimania version has no protection : so you could even copy it with FastCopy or MSA on your ST, it should work (just convert the STX with HxC Emulator).
Also one file has been deleted on the disk... Strange. Is it a real dump of the original disk ?

Just checked the disk contents of my dump and it has exactly the same file and folders as the one from Atarimania.

Found this thread by coincidence, interesting disussion here regarding the Kick Off 2 protection... As someone who has cracked "a few" (i.e. all available protected Amiga versions) Kick Off 2 versions I can assure that Rob Northen didn't have anything to do with the protection at all. The encryption code is COMPLETELY different to anything Rob Northen ever made! Ijor and others are right, dlfrsilver is wrong! As simple as that.

And I hacked the ST version and don't recall seeing anything that made me think Rob Northen had anything to do with it whatsoever. I got the impression that the protection was all done "in house" by Anco, at least on the software side, but the disc protection wasn't the usual Rob N type either.

It was a good protection, possibly the only time I had to release a fixed version a day or two later as I'd missed one checksum which wasn't discovered until a lot more testing had been done.

Protection was indeed made in-house by Anco. And it was one of the better ones back then as a lot of "crackers" didn't notice the various checksum checks which meant a lot of non-working "cracks" were released. The Cobra X-ROM encryption was neat too for its day, coding the decrypter took me a few hours when I first encountered this encryption. Same problem as with the various Rob Northen protections though, it was used for many Anco titles (Player Manager, Death Trap etc.) so it was a matter of coding the required decrypter once as it could be used for all incarnations of the protection.

i have just said that i could not make an IPF because the disc was seen as either modified/unsupported. The protection on this game is in no way related to Rob Northern Copylock or did i missed something ? :)

"i know he protected Kick Off (Amiga and ST) and Kick Off 3 (Amiga only). Maybe someone at Anco reworked his protection, it "could be" possible"

That's just one of your replies which can be found in this very thread. And it's interesting how you now claim that the protectiions is in no way related to RN Copylock. *Cough*! And just an aside, Rob Northen didn't protect Kick Off 3!

the Amiga protection is called Anco copylock in the CTA. And i said maybe, there was nothing sure about it.

The Amiga protection is Anco's COBRA X-ROM. Same for the Atari version, yes I have just checked the code of the Atari version! And I also have, just for fun, started to code a decrypter for the Atari version too as I want to see how different the encryption is compared to the Amiga version.

I have finished the decrypter for the Atari version of Kick Off 2, encryption is similar to the Amiga version, only in the final decryption loop different add.w/sub.w instructions are used for calculating the keys (Atari: sub, Amiga: add) which isn't too surprising as also for different Amiga titles these instructions differ (probably randomised). Source attached (quick and dirty hack which does the job).
