My main problem with it isn't a MIST problem really, but the fact that esxdos (at least in my setup) doesn't display long filenames. It's hard to tell what anything is.

If you visit the esxdos forums you'll actually find that a beta version can handle long file names. Maybe it makes sense to join those forums and show some interest.

I've actually been a member there since March 13th of last year. I've seen discussion and even screen shots of an "in progress" beta that will have long file name support, but unless I'm missing something, it hasn't been released yet. The last post I saw from the developer about it was almost exactly a year ago, dated January 5th, 2015.

I've tried the 0.36beta I've found on their forum, and while it was correctly loaded with [ok] in my MiST, I couldn't start it with F11. I guess it's not supporting long file name either so I don't really care. If needed, I can rename problematic files. Esxdos rocks anyway! ;)

if it's any consolation, it works exactly the same in real hardware...

The one I tried was 086beta 4, and it behaved exactly the same way, but yeah, that one's been around for a few months. Lke you said, it didn't have long filen ame support anyway. I think it brought RTC support, or something like that. It's not that big a deal. It does work really well as it is with version 085.

I think there's a DOS directory command that will list long file names next to their short file name equivalents ("dir/x", I believe). I just need to generate a text file/printout from that to be able to see what things are.

Hi all,
in previous cores (even using v0.8.6 of esxdos) some games (like gunfright) doesn't recognize the keyboard, at least in menu, so you can't start to play...

Hi all,
I've found the keybard problem in ultimate games:
pentagram, knightlore, gunfright, sabrewulf: doesn't recognize keyboard pressing in the menu
aticatac: not keyboard related, it freezes in the first game screen showing flashing squares (maybe is my sna file, I must try others)
pssst, cookie, jetpac: works flawlesly

I don't know if games from other companies have this keyboard problem too...

"The latest core already includes the necessary ESXMMC.BIN from the esxdos085.zip. Follow the instructions in the ESXDOS archive and copy the entire BIN and SYS directories onto your SD card and boot your MIST with that."

So that's why the 0.86 betas don't run with last cores...

Hi!

EDIT: This results are for the Mist core from GORAN:

It would be awesome to have the latest beta of ESXDOS (version 0.8.6b4) within this latest core, as ir solves an issue with keyboard problems.

(You can check the info here: http://board.esxdos.org/viewtopic.php?id=42)
(And get it from the official forum here: http://board.esxdos.org/viewtopic.php?pid=40#p40 )

In another matter:

And I've encountered a weird error in the core, keyboard related too.

It occurs with, and without ESXDOS loaded, so it seems a core problem:

ERROR: Many keys on the keyboard are unresponsive.
SOLUTION: press ESC, left SHIFT, Z, X, C or V, just one time. Then the keyboard is responsive again.

You can check this issue easily loading THE HOBBIT, and do the following:

Start the game, and type "LOOK", after the screen is redrawn, the game waits until a keystroke.
Ok, it only works with the ones said. Any other keypress does nothing.

This behaviour can be reproduced too in "ALIEN 8" , when the game starts, a menu is shown and there is music.
OK, if you press ANY key, the music stops. Here again, only works ESC, left SHIFT, Z, X, C and V...

Regards.

Edit: Another example is "SABREWULF", loading via ESXDOS you have to press ESC SHIFT ZXCCV, this will enable the keyboard and after that, the screen gets corrupt.
WITHOUT ESXDOS, (loading from CSW) you have to press ESC SHIFT ZXCV and after that, it works correctly.

So, SABREWULF doesn't work with esxdos, works without it, and always suffer from the strange keyboard core issue.

Hi!

I didn't notice there was another version (not Goran) in the repository!!

The keyboard, as you say, in this version, works as it should.

Yo can avoid the errors in Ultimate games (due to esxdos in the loading method of tap), do the following:

- open esxdos menu F11
- select game (ex: sabrewulf)(the game will load up and run)
- press F11 again, and then R (to reset the spectrum)
- select 48K mode (if prompted)
- type LOAD "" and return

The game will load correctly :) Tested with Gunfright, Sabrewulf and Alien8.

It would be awesome if he could add the following:

- ESXDOS 0.8.6b4 to the core. (As it solves keyboard issues in some games, vailable in the official forum: http://board.esxdos.org/viewtopic.php?pid=40#p40 ).
- Scanlines.
- An option to stop/resume CSW files when playing. ( Maybe pressing TAB key. This would allow to load some multi part games in CSW format).

Regards.

Well, I'm testing last ZX Spectrum core version, zxspectrum_20160212.rbf https://github.com/sorgelig/ZX_Spectrum ... 160212.rbf ... and WOW, THAT'S OUTSTANDING! Now even in modern games AY music sounds great!

All the problems I've found now seem to be solved!

Hi all!

I've tried following the steps but the games doesn't work.
I'll try with another TAP file of each game.

Thanks for the info, Javidoom!

Hi.

I've tested them again, few minutes ago, and this method works for me.

I'm using latest Sorgelig core: zxspectrum_20160212.rbf and ESXDOS 0.8.5 in a 16Gb card.
With only the spectrum core in the SD, renamed to core.rbf and mist booting directly into it.
Mist with the latest firmware: firmware_160123.upg.

Tap versions of the games.

Regards.
